International Rare Disease Day Wednesday 29th February 2012

ITP is classified as a rare disease with about 3000 to 4000 people in the UK suffering from ITP at any one time. There are 6000 rare diseases overall, with 3.5 million people in the UK suffering from one of these rare diseases. This equates to 1 in every 17 people.
