My beautiful mum was admitted to ICU on Thursday with severe acute pancreatitis. She has been in an induced coma on a ventilator since Saturday. It breaks my heart seeing her like this and I’m emotionally drained from the worry and anxiety of the unknown.
I pray she pulls through as I don’t want to live in a world without her. She is only 60.

Hi RunnerGirl95.I was admitted to ICU last year with Covid and Pneumonia which led to multiple organ failure. I was in an induced coma for 5 weeks and ventilated for months. It was discovered part way through my stay that I had severe acute pancreatitis. This was causing recurring ecoli infections and sepsis. This was eventually treated by a long course of antibiotics.
There is no set time for recovery for people admitted to ICU, everyone is different. Easy to say, but try to get as much rest as you can as your Mum will need your support and presence as time progresses. Its a long journey. Keep asking questions of the medical staff to keep up to date. Hope she gets better soon.
Hi I would like to know how you are doing now ? When I started reading your post I thought I’d written it @ first ! I’ve got so many stories of loads of hurdles I had to get through & I’m still going through❤️🩹 I have left a brief post of my journey after my induced coma from covid below take a look & I would love to chat to you about your journey & where you are at box
It’s been an absolute rollercoaster. Since my last post Mum has had a cardiac arrest, kidney failure (so required dialysis) and on Tuesday this week we didn’t think she’d make it through the night. It’s now Thursday and Mum is still here fighting, albeit in a coma and still very unwell.
I remained in ICU for 90 days and in an induced coma for 57 days. It was touch & go for much of that time. My family had to look after their own well-being too, afterall, I was getting the best possible care imaginable.
I say they needed “to look after their own well-being”, for 2 reasons. The first was that their worry & concern wouldn’t alter the outcome for me, it would just mean they were exhausted. Secondly, they would need every ounce of energy once I had returned home because I was so compromised.
hiya I’m here to give you some hope , some faith & encouragement.
Because I know that your mother‘s condition is not the same as mine, but I’m here to tell you that your mum can overcome this health condition.
In January 21 I caught Covid at the age of 57 I had no symptoms but my daughter noticed I was breathing faster than usual on arrival at Hospital oxygen level was solo. I had to be put into an induced coma which I remain for two months. During this time in intensive care, I had pneumonia, Sepsis multiple organ failure and kidney dialysis. I also had blood clots in my jugular vein and was suffering with seizures. Didn’t for me and my family was told I was critical. Two months later I started to improve and was able to have a truckie done Health just continued to move from strength to strength.
I’ve said to say this, while there is life there is hope and never give up. Speak to your loved one as much as you can as I do hear you as I heard voices and noises around me even though at the I was ill, I wasn’t allowed any visitors and I still pulled through it’s been a long journey four years on I’m still recovering and I’ve experienced lot more health conditions on the back of the conditions I’ve had but I’m still here and I’m very very grateful for you love One and encourage as much as you can if you are Christian then pray and encourage other family members and friends to pray too as I believe this also helped me to pull through. I hope this helps and gives you more refresh determination and hope for your loved one.❤️
Two years ago I was in a induced coma with multiple organ failure for eight weeks and in icu for four months (with the Flu!) , I was given a 1% chance of recovery, and even then it would be severe brain damage... Well two years later I am still alive and kicking, memory is a bit iffy and walking is a struggle but I'm still here.Never say never and don't give up, miracles do happen, I'm living proof.
I concur with that I had all of what you had double pneumonia collapsed lung strep A sepsis shock two heart attacks and left with arrhythmia paralysed arm etc etc family told to come and say goodbye more than once. But I’m here and trying to recover 1.5 years later. Amazing from where I was so it’s all possible. Never give up.
I hope your mum is doing better. May I suggest playing music for her. That's all I wanted to do was listen to music. Your mum is in my prayers. Music will make her comfortable. I promise. Sending you love and good vibes.
