Hi All, I had a chest infection, that triggered a near fatal asthma attack, which lead to respiratory failure which caused cardiac arrest, I spent 3 days on a ventilator and 8 days in ICU, I now have heart failure where my LV is 30% , (Takotsubo cardiomyopathy or takotsubo syndrome), what else can I say , except for the fact I'm on a lot of medication and really don't know how to take it all in, I used to be so active ,running, fishing, gardening, not so much now, I know its early days ( happened July 2024) and I am back at work, but don't know how to cope with everything, I'm single live on my own, no kids, I have a brother and sister and really good mates, but I don't want to worry them, so just say I'm ok, but I'm not

I tend to think about illness in terms of BC/AD - Before Care/ After Discharge
The stay in ICU changed everything.
Trauma is a lonely business because we rarely come across anyone who can possible understand - reaching out as you have done - helps 💙
Best advice I can give is, you have a brother and sister as well as good friends who I would hope are happy to listen to you. I found it really helps to talk it over with others and you'll be surprised how much they will want to help. You're right, it is still very early days for you. Time will heal but don't be in too much of a rush.
it’s very recent this happened to you and it may help to talk to other ICU survivors. Sepsur has a group zoom call. It’s a very short time since you were in hospital and time is a healer as is talking to others. I am a private person but our family experience of ICU traumatised me for a long time. We were lucky for the experience we had in that my brother survived critical illness. There are lots of resources through the ICU steps Charity that may help you. Please be kind to yourself.
talking to others who have been there (for what ever reason) really helps cc-sn.org/ run a drop in on zoom on a Thursday evening. See thir web sit for more info about the types of support they give.
I'm not surprised you feel the way you do. Google ICU. You will be see how many survivors are seeking support. You've always got this group too. You could also contact your GP who could help you. You could conta social services for assistance too.
Hang on in there.
You've done the right thing looking for support.
Good luck.
