Hey guys I did my revisit to the icu yesterday and got to speak to a psychologist and consultant then I had a walk around the ward after,it's in a different building now but it was something I really wanted to do,I think it's helped me and I'm going to be having a few further sessions with the icu psychologist so thank you all for your great advice 😊

I don't know if it would help you but I found it very helpful to write down my memories of everything around my ICU experience: before, during and after. I wrote it at the suggestion of a counsellor and found it very therapeutic. Your mileage may, of course, vary.

Glad it helped...psychology will help further. It's a long haul but every little bit of help is worth taking!

Good to hear it helped! I'm planning the same but only when I'm physically able to walk onto the unit unaided.

That’s so wonderful, I’m glad you’ve been able to turn it into a somewhat positive experience. Do you mind me asking how long it has been since you were a patient there? Just curious as mine was two years ago and I think it would really help the trauma based anxiety I have from my experience there.

Hi mine will be two years in May but they explained it's such a traumatic experience to go through that healing will take alot of time 🙂

I just spotted your reply...I don't think the time frame matters...I'm sure if you contacted your icu they'd be able to help you!

I was very lucky. I was well handled in spite of everything being closed down due to covid. I was happy just to accept what I was told and thought everything through on terms which have not really given me any trouble since. I can understand how a revisit can be helpful to those who are still struggling with the experience though I wasn’t actually offered one although I am certain if I had asked I would’ve have been able to.

hello! I had my post ICU follow up appointment about 2 weeks ago, it was with a consultant who I had seen a few times and an ANP who had been very involved with my family during my illness. We both found the visit really positive, we went onto the unit but I didn’t recognise it as I was in a single room due to being covid pos. We met lots of staff who had cared for me, it was a very emotional experience for us and also for the staff, I few cried to see how far I’d come. Wishing you a speedy recovery
