My husband passed out and quit breathing after his blood sugar became extremely low. They have extubated but continue to try to keep him on the by-pap machine. I feel that they continually are sedating him and he can't wake up. I feel that by continuing to sedate him is making him dependent on precedex and his body cannot fully wake up. He tries to talk to me but I cannot understand him. How long should it take after intubation for him to regain his voice. And why won't they let him off the by-pap and sedation long enough to fully wake up

hi Lisa
I hope it all works out for you both - I’m sorry I have no insight into what is happEnding to your husband beyond him not being able to do without help.
it took me a long time to fully come round. I was safer asleep. I had a trachy and once I came round was fitted with a voice box which I was allowed to use for short periods of time. Eventually the trachy was removed and I started learn to speak again
