My relative recently took an overdose of amitryptline an awful lot of it, when I found him was unresponsive with no pulse and a respiratory rate of 2bpm. paramedics worked miracles and he was taken to hospital. He was ventilated/intubated for 3 days, they took the tube out as he was able to breathe for himself, they said he woke up with a bang trying to pull it out but after that isn’t coming round how they anticipated whilst he’s breathing for himself he’s got a chest infection now too and needs oxygen, he has convulsions throughout the day and they sedate when he gets agitated (only slight sedation) he’s now still sound asleep… coughing every and again and the slight twinge here and there but he’s not able to say a word or do anything he’s been “coming around for three days” is this normal. They’re very cagey and just say he’s still very poorly

I hope your loved one makes steady sure progress, when it comes to recovery from critical illness ‘normal’ is a bit of an anathema. Asking whether something is ‘usual’ might get a more helpful response from staff.
We all respond differently to sedation and critical illness and the recovery from both can vary greatly - try not to read too much into each change because we can remain unstable for quite a while. Remain realistically positive as opposed to unduly pessimistic 💙
