My husband spent two months in icu during the first wave of covid from December 2020. He was in a coma for 3 weeks of that. We are forever grateful that he managed to come back to us and has made a huge recovery at home. He still struggles with very large and sticky secretions on a daily basis. We initially thought it was due to stenosis at the trachy site but looking at the secretions, they are much larger than a normal secretion so with or without stenosis would be difficult to bring up. His lung X-rays are clear with no scarring so this is mainly due to what they are producing still, sone 3 years later. Is anybody else out there suffering or has suffered with the same problem and can offer any advice/ tips/ point us towards help from someone somewhere? TIA

hello
Thanks for sharing your story and hubby experience.
I caught covid in December 2020 and was hospitalised on Christmas Day, spent 6 weeks in a coma on ECMO machine and had trachy… all in all 5 months in ICU before making it home.
I still have sticky mucus like coming up 1-3 times a day after coughing it up… it is awful… consultants think it’s my stomach lining due to meds but I don’t feel it is acidic at all… also my food never comes up on this sticky nonsense. It’s exhausting and embarrassing …
Now waiting on Lung consultant in June to explore further…
Happy for us to stay in touch and update each other so we know what to look for abd treat once we find the cause!
Don’t lose heart and tell him he’s not alone x
I’m not as bad I don’t think but, two years later, I still have a recurring cough and throat mucus that will not go away. The doc says it’s probably nasal but I don’t think so. It’s like I have a mild throat infection all the time.
