Repatriation of Dad in ICU from Thailand to London

My Dad is in ICU in Thailand, it's been a week. He has pneumonia and acute respiratory failure on 50% oxygen through nasal tubes and heavily sedated.

The travel insurance company says he has to have a fit to fly certificate and stable test results to fly. I've also read patients can do better at home.

Has anyone had experience with repatriation of someone far abroad in ICU? Any advice you could offer? I would think it's best not to move him but it's all new ground to us.

the only people I know that were repatriated after being in ICU anywhere, were moved once they had left ICU/HDU.

To put it into context, they wouldn’t transfer me by ambulance between units only an hour apart because I’d not survive the journey. I hope your father turns a corner quickly- best wishes.
