Dad admitted to ICU with Sepsis on 31/12/22

my dad was admitted to the ICU on New Year’s Eve, he’s had pneumonia, strep a and sepsis, he’s currently got the Trachi and is on the kidney filter machine. The doctors are saying that they need to sedate him 100% now so he can get the rest he needs as everything is failing on him. They’ve talked about the possibility of taking the Trachi out and incubating the vent back down his mouth like previous so they can turn him.

We thought we were finally getting somewhere when the Trachi was fit but we only seem to ever go backwards.

Has anyone experienced this? We’re going out of our minds.

I’m assuming they would like to prone him?

This can make it easier on the lungs 😊 - if he can get more oxygenated, this in turn takes pressure off all the other organs - I don’t think proning can be done with a trachy.

yes we experienced something similar with my brother when he was admitted to CCU with sepsis from flu. He was in a similar situation to your Dad. It’s very hard I know as we experienced all this. I will send you a link to my brothers story on ECMO that we write to provide hope and information to other families. It is a difficult rollercoaster to be on. I hope your Dad improves.

When I had Covid I was ventilated when my condition got worse, and sedated for 5 weeks. During that time I was proned.

I then had a trachi, and after a total of 10 weeks in ICU , I was transfered.

While on the ventilator I had dialisis, but much was watch and wait.
