Mum in ICU...

Sorry for the long post but just wanting to get some support if possible.. So my mum fell ill 2 weeks ago today, she was taken to ICU (tested positive for flu) and given treatment for 4 days in there while awake (oxygen etc) she was doing ok. and tested negative for flu eventually. Then she took a nose dive, went ballistic ripping lines etc out hitting at nurses, she didn't recognise me at all so they decided the only way to treat her was to intubate her which lasted I think 5 days. They brought her round and she was ok that day, the next day took another nose dive with breathing and had to be reintubated. They are now fitting a trach (fingers crossed today), the doctor said yesterday she had another chest infection but are saying she should be better when the trach is in? Does anyone have any input or thoughts on this situation as I feel hopeless. Thank you so much 🙏 x

I was intubated for 57 days after contracting avian flu - this caused a crowd of other infections and conditions. Eventually I had a trachy & was woken up.

Your Mum may be experiencing ICU delirium - hence her becoming quite agitated- this is fairly common - this link takes you to a page of useful pdfs
