What comes next after ICU or HDU

Many of us drop down through the various wards and end up in rehab whether as an in or outpatient. Across the U.K. there is a great discrepancy between the various Trusts - for those of us who experience ICU before Covid, there was very little long term provision of help. I was very fortunate with my rehab but even this was a limited resource that realistically couldnt feasibly address all the complex issues I experienced as a survivor of ICU & my ongoing treatment for leukaemia. Some of us formed a group that looked at practical ways to address some of our common issues. Please see the header photo for our weekly programme of free help to all ( even your loved ones). These sessions run at U.K. local time.

Hi there, thank you for all these information and for your candidness when you speak of all you’ve been through. You most be a very strong person, carrying so much on you but looking out for others. I came home as outpatient, receiving physical therapy at home and a nurse visiting three times a week for three months. I’m still recuperating, have mild fibrosis also due to the Covid. We also have a Covid survivors group here and I also attend bereavement zoom meetings four time a month. Perhaps someday I’ll have the courage and drop in on your group.

Thank you for letting me be a part of your conversation.

Best!

You’d always be welcome - we’ve found the sessions helpful - I’m still physically improving 5yrs on from ICU - although the waters are slightly muddier because of several times in hospital since then which always leads to some deconditioning again - I lose muscle tone & become more breathless once more. It’s a long old hike but easier with people along side you 😊

Thanks so much for this information and link. I’ve just looked around the site as well as the April newsletter. In it was mentioned the possibility of a drop in specifically for Australians which is fantastic, because that’s where I live. I’m 5 months out of hospital following severe pneumonia, necessitating intubation/coma/ventilator, and weeks in a respiratory ward and then rehab. The specialist I saw a month after discharge warned me that it would be a long recovery, and he is so right. Sadly, there’s no support group offered by the hospital, so online orgs have been what I’ve been searching for.

We have several members across Australia - so we thought about an inclusive drop-in 😊. Good luck moving forward with your recovery

Thanks for responding back. I’m sorry I didn’t get back sooner - have been away visiting my Mum who’s in nursing care (dementia). Have you decided on a date for the Australian drop in? Cheers!
