What’s some of your all’s personal experience or a loved ones personal experience, with trying to breathe over the vent. They said my dad was coming out of his sedation a little today and then he starts to breath real hard and he gets all agitated and anxious, so then it in turn messes with his oxygen. Then of course they had to up his sedation. I know it’s bad to try and breathe against the machine, but have you guys seen this a lot? Is that a normal thing?

I don't know about this, but I'm not sure if it's possible to breathe against the ventilator. When my sedation was reduced I was very agitated because of the intubation, which was only relieved when the tube was removed and replaced with a trachy.
I’ve read a lot about the trach. They haven’t mentioned anything like that to us yet. But yes, he’s gotten agitated about being intubated. His arms were also strapped to the bed at first, he didn’t like that for sure. They aren’t anymore though, I guess bc sedation has increased.
I can remember my hands being bound, I guess to prevent me pulling at the tubes and lines.
I got agitated with the intubation when coming off sedation as I felt I couldn't breathe properly, but they didn't bind my hands, they just sedated me again. I've been told it's common. I ended up with a tracheostomy because I was intubated via mouth for too long and that was MUCH better.
