CPR needed-covid battle

My dad needed cpr this am after his heart rate dropped. His saturation was in the 60s. The drs are telling us this will happen again (asking us to sign a DNR) and say he will never walk again (7 wks ventilated and sedated) and will likely be cognitively impacted. Anyone out there have a recovery story or do i need to come to terms with this?

It is possible to come through all this. My heart was started a couple of times, my kidneys & lungs had failed, I was intubated & in a coma for 57 days - then remained on a trachy for maybe two more weeks. My family were told that I’d be brain damaged through the hypoxia if I survived and anyway the leukaemia would get me - that was 5yrs ago - in the next couple of weeks I might get the news that I’m in full remission - the signs are there.

Sometimes our time comes in one way or another, there is no real preparing for it.

No matter how hard we may brace ourselves, when the news comes it still hits like a brick wall.

Having said that, there are also countless recoveries, recoveries from a point where all possible hope was given up - there are very many accounts of these on this very forum.

Never give up

There are many stories out there of people who have come back from worst. My dad had to be bagged on monday because he to his saturation dropped in the 60s. Today his lung collapsed and they had to enter a chest tube. My dad is 39 days ventilated and from the very beginning I refused DNR. My family and I made a decision that we will fight to the end with my dad. and today his lung collapsed. I did not permit them to sign DNR as my family and i feel we will let god have the last word. your father will be in my prayers.

During the first five weeks dad was on highest vent settings and his kidneys had failed . He turned a corner five weeks in although did have further infections , which I gather is very common in ICU .

All his other Organs have fully recovered apart from his lungs which is left with some scarring . He was 73 days on the ventilator.

I pray you see some improvement soon xx

Did his X-rays look really bad?

During his illness they where really bad , but have improved over time . It’s difficult really as dad had scan in October and doctor said all was fine , yet the repeat scan in December said he had serve Lung scarring . It’s not even a year since his illness so hopefully they will improve with time . X

They have my dad on a blood pressure med to keep it up and believe if they remove it he will go into cardiac arrest again- this happen to your husband?

When it first happened. Now he is at a regular good heart rate normally. Give it some time.

My dad is on week 6 of ventilator and had CPR for 8 minutes a few weeks back. (Not covid tho) and like your dad also had a collapsed lung but the one thing the doctors did say that stuck in my mind and was the reason we were called in to prepare for the worst, was that if the saturation remained below 85% then dads other organs would start to fail and eventually his heart would stop again. But luckily he turned a corner and 2 weeks later his still here despite them saying he wouldn’t last 24 hours. How’s his other organs doing ? Don’t give up hope, there’s still time for him to turn a corner too and I pray for you that he will x

My saturation levels were down to 38. I was intubated, put on a ventilator and put in a coma. I was told I may die, but I'm here
