Glad to know I'm not alone

Long story short, July 4 2019 I had a major heart attack and 2 cardiac arrests, ending up in medical coma in icu for about 3 weeks with severe delirium, and getting pneumonia and sepsis to boot. Overall, I spent 59 days in 4 different hospitals, but finally have the physical all clear. I also have MS (dx 2009), well managed. Been bugged by anxiety and some fear, most recently triggered by a dental visit (surprise!). Hopefully I can find others to help me feel a bit more "normal". Liverpool FC and San Antonio Spurs supporter. Happy new year to, all!

Somebody has got to support Liverpool!!😂

There is nothing wrong with being anxious but you could use other words ie being aware of the risks and then how you manage the risk

It's a hard road, right?! Lol, nope, it's wonderful now. Thanks for the reminder to be thoughtful how I phrase things in my head. I'm a big, big believer in the influence of words

Welcome @Texascubbie.

Like you I had everything barring the cardiac arrests ( mine was heart failure due to MOF - so they had to restart my heart a few times to get the beat regular too). I suffered delirium with few long term effects. In fact my wife always said I must be on the spectrum because no matter what I went through, I seemed unfazed. Interestingly for me 2yrs later I had my first bone marrow biopsy, it was an ordeal but no worse than anything that hadn’t already happened in ICU over the 90 days I was there. The procedure was 45mins and should have taken 5mins - I’ve got hard bones & the nurse that did it obviously had an off day. I went into shock once it was over. Now every time I have biopsies ( which aren’t painful even) 9 so far since ICU, I go into shock after. Mentally I’m calm but my body behaves of it’s own accord.

Yep, that's how I feel. Kind of scary my brain and body like to stop communicating at times. I've a dental appointment today, and the hubs is coming with in case things go sideways.

Good luck to you! I'm glad I can still sleep right through the MRIs I need to check on my MS!

Hi Texascubbie! My wife is a Liverpool FC fan, but I'm a blue (Everton FC) so I have a hard time of it! I visited San Antonio for a couple of days during my one and only visit to the US, back in '79; beautiful city.Good to hear that you're recovering well from your ICU ordeal, I don't think many people (including nurses and medics) fully understand the physical and psychological trauma of critical illness. Best wishes, take care.

No worries, it's all Merseyside! Thanks for the good wishes, they're reciprocated this new year!
