My dad has COVID pneumonia, he was on bicap 5 days later he had a stroke on his right side of the Brain. He has sepsis, low blood platelets, low white blood cells. Everything is happening together, 2 days ago they had to intubate him on the ventilator and they have his sedated his heart rate goes down to the 30’s beats/minute due to the medication they give him, also his blood sugar has been going up to the 400 (he doesn’t have diabetes) they said it’s to some medication they are giving him. Everything is happening to my dad all together I’m so scared 😓 I have a lot of faith though he’s a strong man and I know he’s fighting 🙏🏻✨ Who’s has a similar situation with COVID? Any suggestions? Anything that I should know? Thank you!🙏🏻😞💗
COVID pneumonia and Stroke : My dad has COVID... - ICUsteps
COVID pneumonia and Stroke
Aw I really feel for you. We’ve had a tough time with my dad over the last 15 days. Honestly I feel like I’m living on a Living on awful rollercoaster I can’t get off. One thing I will say is that the ICU staff are amazing. It’s been awful not being able to see dad but my mum was able to call at any time of the day and get updated. We found that helped a lot. All were lovely. My dad thankfully turned a corner all of a sudden on Friday (have everything crossed) . We’ve been able to speak to him and he says he got such good care in icu. We’ve still got a long road ahead.
Try reading some of the positive stories on here. Some people have had very similar to your dad and really good outcomes. He’s in the best place, they have much better knowledge of treating Covid now too. How old is you dad?
Stay strong x
Thank you 🙏🏻 Yes I appreciate everyone for telling me your stories it makes me feel much better because there’s lot lots of hope. I’m so glad your dad is better I will be praying for your dad for a fast recovery. The ICU nurses are angels! My dad is 58 years old and he has no health issues. Happy thanksgiving god bless you and your family ✨🙏🏻
My husband contracted Covid while in hospital so was already very weak from almost 100 days in ICU/HDU. They were able to treat him quickly and he seems to be on the mend now.
They have a lot more knowledge this time round and ICU is definitely the best place to be. They will be watching everything so carefully and making adjustments when they can to help make things better.
I agree with Tootle2929 - have a look at the positive stories on here. Even if they aren't Covid related, it might help you to see how wonderful the human body is at times. Try to think positively and I wish your dad well x
As tootle2929 says read some of the episodes of life on this site. Unfortunately corvid is just another reason to finish up in ICU. The consequences of time in icu are fairly “normal” whatever that means although as patients they effect us in different ways. It’s good to see he is a fighter that alone will help his recovery. I’m 72 and was sedated/ ventilated for nearly 3 months from just before Xmas last year. The family had the “call” twice and despite the hospitals efforts I wasn’t ready to come round. The icu I was in knew we were in for the long haul and cared for me. I came out mid March and I am still recovering. Recovery is a long process and is traumatic in itself both for the patient and family.
So my advice at this time is take care of yourself as there are hard times ahead although there will be a light at the end of the tunnel.
Hi @deissygonzalez_ I hope it all settles down for your Dad soon and he starts to turn a corner - my experience of critical care was a messy long winded affair - nothing straightforward - numerous infections on top of infections, terrible side effects to sedatives & medications. Eventually I came through it.
Hey I know how you are feeling, my dad contracted Covid end of September, he was on cpap and started to feel better. He then suffered a left sided major stroke he was then ventilated. We was told his odds on survival was very little and if he was to make it he wouldn’t have a good standard of life, we was told if we went to see him at end of life we would have to self isolate for two weeks and wouldn’t be able to attend his funeral it was awful !!! He picked up many infections on the ventilator and when he come round off the ventilator he had to have a tracheostomy fitted, he finally had this removed yesterday. He has no movement on his right side just yet , he is talking but sometimes his words are muddled and he is confused when he wakes up but he is FINALLY moving to a stroke ward today where they will start the real work on his rehabilitation. It will be a roller coaster , one step forward two steps back is common and you will always hear worst case scenarios from the consultants but you know your dad better than them. All I can say is stay positive, never lose hope no matter what you are being told. Your dad will pull through this too with all your strength and love ❤️
My dad was on a ventilator for almost 3 weeks, had kidney failure and had to have dialysis. He went into A-fib, had to have a couple of blood transfusions due to the kidney failure and caught infections as well. The first time he finally got to the point where the doctor thought he could get him off the ventilator he had a really bad reaction and we almost lost him. He had to go back to full oxygen and had to have a tracheostomy done. Once he was on just 40% oxygen with a peep of 5 they stopped sedation and when he started to wake up some we were finally able to FaceTime him. The doctor decided to transfer him to a continued care hospital where they started to wean him off the ventilator and start some rehab. Now he is doing really good! We are able to FaceTime him everyday. This is an extremely scary road to go down, don’t lose hope or your faith!! Keeping our faith in God is what helped us from not losing it sometimes. Keep looking for positive stories on here it really does help. ❤️
