Has anyone else experienced loss of memory?

I was alone in late March. I missed work on Monday and don’t remember most anything that happened until Sunday when paramedics were knocking on my bedroom window. I reluctantly answered them while totally nude on my bedroom floor. I was taken by ambulance to nearby hospital and put in icu for three days and spent subsequent four more days in the hospital. My diagnosis was severe septic shock pneumonia.

When the ambulance took me to the hospital, my toes were blue. I kept asking the paramedics why my toes were blue. I believed up until a month ago that I was taken to Covid ward but it was actually icu and I only remember bits and pieces. Then, I got moved to a private room and I remember most of that.

I tested negative for Covid when I got to hospital (according to records).

I had home nursing twice a week when I got home and that nurse believed I had covid.

Most everyone thinks I had covid. Of course, I had to pay around 10,000 dollars for copays, etc.

Has anyone else experienced being comatose for a week? I still question if it might have been Covid. I took antibody test about 2 months later and it was also negative.

Hi @Bailey317

I’ve been comatose for 57 days with sepsis, septic shock, multiple organ failure, double pneumonia, strep A, severe ARDS, leukaemia/lymphoma

So you could say - I know exactly where you are coming from. The only difference is that I was given excellent FREE care by NHS in UK.

If anyone ever doubted the merit of the NHS, your bill is a sharp reminder.

I have very little memory of the few days leading up to me being in ICU ( and I was blue lighted), nor can I remember much from the first few days after coming around, except I then didn’t sleep for 3 days solid and thought I was losing my mind all over again. Wishing you a happier time ahead.

There is a phenomena common in critical care called ‘cognitive dysfunction’ a posh way to describe brain fog. This showed itself in the way I struggled to remember names or words or conversations & agreements

Hi @Bailey317

I came out of hospital mid March this year. However at the end of November I went to see my GP (local doctor) I don’t remember why other then my GP called an ambulance I was in our local hospital with pneumonia and a heart attack and was sent home. A few days later my wife called an ambulance and again I don’t know why but remember the crew calling through that it was pneumonia and sepsis. I was eventual taken by ambulance to a specialist hospital where I was sedated / ventilated for 6/8 weeks.

I can’t remember very much from the 2 months before going into hospital. Right through until I came round and from then on it’s a bit hazy. Having said that occasionally when promoted I can remember little bits but I think the memory is more by suggestion.

I remember watching a lovely interview with Michael Caine, when he was recounting VE Day 1945, how he was in the crowd outside Buckingham Palace when all of a sudden this magical moment occurred as a single bugler/ trumpeter started up & he said, “ You know, I don’t know if it happened or just, I’ve told the story so many times, I’ve now convinced myself it happened.” The show then went on to show a tiny piece of Pathe newsreel footage with a single bugler/trumpeter playing outside the gates of BP on VE Day 1945.
