I can only assume this means that his kidneys are not operating at full whack - next time you speak to his team - try and ask. Sometimes it is good for two people to overhear updates, one is bombarded with so much info that it is difficult to process it all in that instant.
Whilst the quantity of urine can be good it’s also the quality that needs to be. Otherwise it means the toxins are not getting flushed from the body. They will keep an eye on the levels, often they go up, plateau and then come down, it usually lags behind urine output. It can take a while for the kidneys to heal but few require long term dialysis afterwards (my husband may be one for them he is on a specialty renal ward after leaving ICU). They will keep an eye on the levels but even if some time on a filter is required it is usually a temporary thing x
