Hi my name is Cath. I spent a total of 8 weeks in hospital just over a year ago now. 5 days in ICU then ward then 2 weeks later a day in ICU again. I have recovered really well. Had a blood clot and infection in my blood led to fluid retension then heart failure. I was given propranolol shortly before this episode so doctors questioned that but I think it was coming anyway as my shortness of breath was getting unbearable. Anyway thanks to the brilliant work of whole medical team I'm hugely lucky to be here. Still tryingto get my head round it. It's obviously much better now but at the start when I was discharged I just couldn't believe what had just happened. xx

Hey Cath, welcome!!
I left hospital in March this year and still can't get my head around it so please know you're not unusual, speaking to many people on here several years down their recovery they still can't comprehend how poorly they were.
Please know we are all here to support, anytime
Debs xx
Hi Cath, I was hit out of the blue last year also. I was given a 1% chance of survival. Like you I can't believe what has happened to me; I have to live with a stoma now but I'm still here. As someone else has said on here, we're all survivors. Steve
In the summer of 2014 I was taken to hospital v for pneumonia then sepsis and ARDS, 2 weeks on an ECMO machine (oxygenating my blood as my lung had failed) 1 month on dialysis for kidney failure and 1 month in ICU I still can't get my head around just how sick I was! Guess it takes a while! !!
