Neurologist Fatigue

I have heard of a medication ? discussed on here to help with fatigue, I think it is a one that also protects against maleria,

I am off to see my Neurologist tomorrow so I want to tell him, not that he will give it to me.

I am back at work only a few hours after being off for a year, but I am really exhausted ? spelling

Its trade name is Plaquenil - full name is hydroxychloroquine.

I've been taking it for several years now and only have Hughes not lupus. Didn't know it affected psoriasis though - I sometimes have this but didn't notice it flare up with Plaquenil.

It makes you feel sick for about a month (joy!) and takes about eight weeks to get into your system.

Good luck!

I took Plaquenil for six week and the last week I couldn't sleep and lost 14 pounds in six weeks, for me it was horrible feeling tense all day, I will never try it again, while a friend of mine has Sjogrens and has been taking it for a few years.

I have found Plaquenil very effective with my fatigue, ( along with strict pacing!), took a few months but my life has changed with clearer thinking, and general ability to get on with life, the joy of being able to do things again.

hope you can find a way

kind regards

Ive just started with this drug and been taking it slowly. I make sure I swallow it right in the middle of a meal!! I am building up the amount I take it so that my symptoms are less and so far its worked. Now on every other day and no nausea (fingers crossed).

If this continues next week I will take as normal every day. I figured it was more important to actually successfully get onto the drug than worry about if it was going to help me which will come after I have been on it for awhile. Hope that suggestion helps you and others.

I don't know if you are on warfarin as you don't say but a good supplement for fatigue is CoQ10. It is something your body makes naturally and can be depleted in especially if you are on a statin (which I am). Its especially good to give you a boost after a cold or flu. I take it most of the time and I am on Fragmin (given the nod), so I think its ok.

You need to take a good make though so I always use Lamberts at a dose of 200mg once a day which you should be able to get from a good health food shop. Hope you feel better soon and don't forget to ask for reasonable adjustments at work with shorter hours and staggered return to work etc.

I wish I had luck with Plaquenil. It didn't do anything for me and I didn't even notice when I stopped taking it.

I was advised against it yesterday at St T.s due to my extensive psoriatic arthropathy - a new diagnosis for me to have lupus as well, signs have been there for years, no tests ever! MFx

Thank you for all your answers .

I did ask, apparently it can lesson the effect of the anti epilepic drugs I take. could cause me to have more fits,

Back to pacing myself I think
