Varicose Veins and Hughes
Hi Tracy
good to hear from you,
I think this one is something to ask your gp or consultant, did you manage to get a referral yet??
I will be asking same question cos veins in my legs quite bad. Will let you know if i get any answers!!

I asked a doctor in the hospital about it years ago and he said my blood will still be pumping properly, but I caught the end of something on telly a while back that said it could cause a clot and recently my leg has started aching but my doctors have little knowledge of hughes and don't seem interested. Yes I did get a referral but I'm still none the wiser, one consultant said that I definitely have hughes and can't be cured and this other consultant carried out more blood tests and said that she thinks it will be negative, which means I havent got hughes????? waiting for results, that was over a month ago and no body knows what the results were, I'm still chasing them. It takes so much effort to chase people up that I feel like leaving it be. I hope your well, its a big struggle isnt it x
Hi Tracy
Really think pushing for a referral to st thomas's in London is what you need to do. Failin that a referral to cardiff, maybe someone on the site will know of a specialist that knows Hughes n lupus. Maybe could private message names to you!
Negative tests do not mean you don't have Hughes syndrome, there are quite a few patients on here who have sero-negative Hughes syndrome.
Hughes syndrome isn't curable but it is managable with correct treatment!
I'm sorry you getting the run around with docs sadly not rare on here.
Will be asking my consultant about varicose veins for definate!!

Hi Tracy,
I completely agree with everything Jessie has said you need to get checked especially f you having and ache, also it may be worth to start taking baby asprin a day this will thin your blood some what but i would check with GP but get a refferal to st toms or cardiff or alternativly go to the A&E and tell them you have a ache and you think its a clot.
please do let us know how things go

Hi Tracy
I always think that the care here in the US is lousy until I read the post here and see how long it takes you guys. My blood comes back w/in a day or two and I do not have to have referral, but I pay dearly for medical care ($500 a month) and my blood work is not covered. Last draw was $800.
My worries is that I am getting a vein in my neck that is starting to show itself. Sometimes aches. Anyone else have that happen?

Another generalized point... I would have thought, (not having varicose veins myself), but remember a relative who did have... that if a varicose vein was getting large, if on anticolagulants then if knocked that might be a problem - just a thought Mary F
I have varicose veins. I have had them looked at and a doppler scan done. I am told that there have not been any clots in there in the past. They did say that as i have Hughes and am on warfarin that they would not want to do anything with them as the options for removal would be too dangerous for me.
I am a bit of a scare cat when it comes to operations etc, so i am happy with that for now, but if they do get too painful in the future, i may have to re-think.
