Hi, I actually had three children... two very healthy children one born really sick because of me...but ALL were really 'sick pregnancies'...toxemia, pre-eclamsia, I was induced with all babies and they were all premature...and I had 4 miscarriages on top of that...

The doctor's did not know I had APS either, so no treatment! Please get a really experienced Doctor and find out what they can do to help you and the baby...maybe treatment makes all the difference.....I don't know what I would have done if I knew what was wrong with me at the time...if I would have had kept trying to have a family...

Once my babies were born safely they seemed to thrive but during the pregnancy this condition was really hard on them and without treatment you can see the odds of miscarriage for me was really high.

I am sorry this isn't wonderful information...I just wished I had known before I got pregnant over and over and lost so may little ones....

Hi

I too managed to have 3 children, my miracles, have also had many losses,

I wasn`t diagnosed till well after I had my children, but like lisa I had difficult pregnancies, one baby born early and all struggled at birth.

So the right team looking after you. Lots of shouting to get the right treatment.

I hope and wish you every success.

Take care gentle hugs Jessielou xxxxx (Sheena) xxx :-) :-)

Yes! I was diagnosed before i had a child, so was under good care during the pregnancy. I did not have any miscarriages as many others sadly experience. I had a great pregnancy overall, was monitored closely and had a heparin pump along the way. I did deliver 5 weeks early due to pre-eclampsia , low platelet count, and stress to the baby. My son was fine overall, in the hospital for several weeks to just make sure his lungs and everything were fine.

I did have problems a month after he was born, I was still on heparin and I reacted with more clots ( heparin induced thrombocytopenia). So heparin is no longer an option for me. We wanted to have another child a few years later ( my son is 12 now), but at the time the other heparin type drugs were not well testing in pregnancy and I didn't want to risk it.

As the others have posted, find the doctor team that you are comfortable with and they will give you and the baby good care!!

Thank you so much to all of you for sharing your experiences, it is good to have some 'real life' information rather than oodles of conflicting websites. I am hoping the heparin works for me and that my local hospital has a good team.

I have APS, am currently pregnant and have not had successful pregnancies so far. I am cautiously optimistic. Check out "Lovely Lovenox Ladies" on babycenter.com. It is a good place to share experiences and hear others' stories.

Hi

I'd say the fact that you have been diagnosed is good as with the right support and treatment it does seem that most people go on to have a successful pregnancy (all of the ones I've spoken to have).

I wasn't diagnosed until halfway through having my family and by then I had suffered the stillbirth of my firstborn daughter, secondary infertility, the successful but not without issues birth of my son (Gestational diabetes, sever pre-eclampsia and then he went into distress when I was induced 6 weeks early and was born by emergency c-section.) He has high function autism but Dr K at St T's describes him as a miracle and he is he saved me!

After he was born I was still undiagnosed as I have sero-negative which is not recognised by my local hospital, I then suffered 3 miscarriages before asking for a referral to Dr K and then with treatment of fragmin (heparin) and aspirin I had another son and then after all the previous stresses fell pg again with my daughter who was born 18 months later.

In my last 2 pg's I did have pre elampsia and gestational diabetes again so they both came early (5 and 4 weeks), my son came home after 11 days and finally I actually left hospital with a baby when my daughter and I came home 4 days after she was born.

I hope this gives you hope as there where times during my 7 year journey above when I really did want to give up but stories like mine now kept me going.

Good luck x
