Hi have aps been on warfrin for 4 months inr goes from 1.1 one week and stays there and goes to over 10 the follwing week on 17mg warfrin
Are you on the same dosage all the time? I can't think of why it would go so far dpwn & up.

I doubt your INR is 10 inless you are bleeding from every pore in your body. If in fact it is, you have a emergency situation and should go to the emergecy room immediatly. How are you getting tests? Are you taking the same amount of warfarin everyday.
I have had INR at 10 and was not bleeding from every pore in my body! I was in hospital at the time and due to doctors not listening to me made me nil by mouth but continued to give me my normal warfarin doseage. I was given a vitamin k injection and my INR went down to 1.9 within hours so than had to have heparin injection.
i have had vitamin k to lower my inr when it goes up they do a finger prick test at the hospital every week for the past 4 months i have been on 17mg per day of warfrin dinr doesnt move for a couple of weeeks and then shots up and my last test was well above 10
What other meds do you take? An INR of 10 would be treated as an emergency here in the States and you would be admitted to the hospital. I can't believe a clinic would allow someone to walk out with such a high INR. Brain Hemorage is a real possibility when it is that high.
It is very possible the the finger prick test is wrong. It is extremely unlikely and almost impossible for the INR change 9 point without a BIG change in diet are change in medication. 17 mg is quite high for the average person.
It is a shame, but this new member, has left very quickly, I hope they come back and can ask some more questions, there is no way of us getting in contact, once they delete their profiles, to be able to offer further support/ I was tied up with various home emergencies so missed this, a real shame. I agree with you. I wanted to give her some advice. Unless she has a very unusual metabolism 17mg is way too high a dose and much higher than I've ever come across before; I iused to take two days of 15mg as a loading dose if I had been off Warfarin for surgery etc and coming back onto it. I was wondering about how consistant her dosing was and also how consistant her diet and alcohol intake was.
Let's hope she comes back as a member; it seems that she might have taken offence at some of our members comments by taking them in the wrong way, as critcism whereas they were offered as help to try to ascertain what the mechanism behind her wildly flutuating INR.

On here, many of us are so used to this forum now, the tight tknit nature etc, and also the different styles we all use. I do feel though that for new members, and some arrive with us very ill, like the best of us, that it could be a little on the intimidating side, if we are not careful with our responses. I do try, like the other ADMINS and support on here to read posts regularly, but like most of us, have a wealth of other things going on. Here is hoping that she comes back again. Mary F x

I have been having similar problems over the past few months. I was dx'd in 2004 and have only had difficulty getting my INR to move into a therapeutic range when I first started taking coumadin in 04 and then in January of 2011 after surgery. This time I have been dealing with Autonomic Dysfunction and heat of the summer since I live in Florida. My diet has not altered but because the damage to my brain has caused my metabolism to malfunction my INR jumps and dives very quickly and I mean within a matter of 3 days. We have gone to weekly testing and I receive my machine next week. There is nothing I can do since it is a physiological issue and not something like a mistake that I have made like making a drastic change in diet.
I sure hope they can find a reason for this and hope it is not metabolic like mine is. I would recommend asking that you be allowed to test at home on a weekly basis. It has proven to be very beneficial for those persons on Coumadin.
