Do any of you need blood transfusions about every other year? I seem to need about 2-3 units every other year. Just wondering!!!!

That's very unusual with HS. Are you sure that's not related to something like autoimmune anemia?

I don't think so, have just had so many things that I lost blood from. And then ended up having so many tranfusions. I have probably had since 1997 when first diagnosed 16-18 tranfusions. It probably is related to anemia.

Did you have internal bleeding like upper GI or lower GI bleed? In Canada if your hemoglobin is lower then 100 then usually a transfusion is considered , but we watch the level's over 48hr, and if your levels go lower then we would transfuse. Was it only blood or did you have FFP Fresh frozen platelets?/Plasma?
