warafin and hairloss

FiguringThingsOut profile image

hello- my daughter (12 years old) was recently diagnosed with APS - double confirmed- after a dvt in her leg that was luckily caught just in time. She is on warafin now for about two months. She is shedding so much hair, that I’m concerned. No alopecia but enough for her and I to notice at showers and brushes. I know that hair loss is a side effect, but wondering if anyone has experienced this and if it’s part of the adjustment period to the medication and if it will eventually stop. I know this is minor considering the alternative, but as a 12 year old girl in middle school, she is having a hard time with it. Any insight would be amazing!

Thanks!

Ahhh I’m so sorry to hear your daughter has gone through this so young.

I have APS and take warfarin and my hair would fall out so much it it was alarming and I was shocked I didn’t have bald patches but it must have fallen out evenly luckily!? My family were so concerned as the hair was everywhere and when I washed it I could literally make a nest out of it there was so much.

I started taking hair vitamins called Hair Burst (they are chewable ones so felt like a gimmick) and honestly didn’t hold out much hope but they work!! My hair fall has gone back to normal it’s incredible. They are regularly on offer so shop around online.

Worth a try. Good luck

Hi, yes terrible especially so young. Not on warfarin so can't answer that but worth having her ferriten and B12 levels checked as this can also effect hair loss.

Hi very important her levels of B12, Ferritin, Folate, D and Thyroid are checked as they can cause hair loss, I know they did with me, eyebrows and hair went very very thin. I hope your/her consultant help her. MaryF

Hi. So sorry to hear this. I have been on Warfarin for 17 years. My hair is so thick, I have to have it thinned monthly. I am 58. I eat many greens and 25-30 pounds of blueberries a month. Lots of smoothies. 😊. I see a naturalpathic. Take many supplements I have a hair analysis done every 6 months to see what I am lacking and metabolizing. I have cleaned out all heavy metals. It could be stress. I would recommend a naturalpathic doctor and push a hair analysis. Determine what is going on

Hugs to you mom. My daughter at age 3 went through hair loss. She is now 25 and has thick long hair. She too, sees a naturalpathic dr. It will be ok❤️

thank you! I’ve been told by others to find a natural path Doc. Will find one in my area. Thank you all!

can only say my hair stayed quite thick on warfarin, but could have sold wigs on Amazon with the fall out when ferritin, and low B’s showed on testing.
