Im applying for disability in the US and I need to find the best place to find information to give them. They don’t seem to know about Hughes syndrome which I still call it. I loved worked but my body and brain just can’t. Any help would be appreciated.

They are not familiar with the name “Hughes” but are aware of antiphospholipid syndrome and its ability that it causes strokes. What state are you in?

Documentation can be provided by your doctor, including physical ailments, falls, confusion, depression and any other things that would limit normal functioning. Safety would be the issue. What can you not do safely and is there documentation. If you see a psychologist or psychiatrist this would help with documentation : severe depression, lethargy, inability to focus/ concentrate. I am on disability but have had strokes, amongst other issues. Cindy

Hey Cindy,

I’m in Louisiana. The hospitals really don’t have any information APS either. There 2 hospitals here that my dr has it on file to call him but I don’t remember them any information about APS in discharge info. I know another hospital that I went to er a couple years and ended up in there for a week or 2 the nurse saying they didn’t have any information in their system about Hughes or APS. Actually that when I really went down after that. My Hughes is so crazy that I’m grateful I got the dr I have or I wouldn’t be here. I hate to say it but the disability office is really trying to find anything they can to keep me getting disability. They have my medical records and with everything wrong with me the nobody can believe they giving me this much trouble with it.

Hi Scott,

I hope the link above help you.

I’m sure this has not been an easy decision, but remember this: you did not make this decision. Your body made this decision for you.

If you have any questions about this process, I would suggest you visit your local hospital, and ask if you might have the right to a social worker help you with the process, especially if you are affiliated with a doctor that can refer you to a social worker that is part of that hospital.

All the best to you and moving forward with improving your health,

Kelly

Hi Kelly,

Thanks so much. My doctor made comments how much I was fighting this and was not want to quit trying to get better. I’m still trying and going to get better. I have a great Dr. that did everything he could even as crazy my body and blood are but had things out of his or my control happened that just caused me to go down.
