Under the care of prof hunt at st Thomas

Had an operation to repair a hernia in sept at Thomas caused in 2013 by a gangrus appendix and bi lateral phnewmonia spent 4 days intensive care unit on life surport machine 😋

Had MRI as felt a bit strange and etc after op so sent me for MRI didn't think they would find any thing . When I went back prof hunt said they had found micro clots on my brain . Wasn't any on there since my last MRI in 2013 . When I ask prof hunt said they wherevcausef by blood disorder and that's why she raised it to 125mg

She said no one she has ever treated got more micro clots when they been on 125 mg of aziophrine

So want find out until sept this year when they do another MRI lol

I'm not on it yet but may be soon. I've just had a full body pet scan as my Drs think I'm microclotting in my brain and bones even with inr of 4. This drug has been mentioned as a possibility but need to wait for scan results.

I also know another member of this community is on it after her Pet scan showed abnormalities.

You're not alone and I hope you improve. I couldn't make out what you're saying - did Prof hunt say this is proven to stop microclotting?

Take care

Hi Tim, I was prescribed Azothioprine in conjunction with Prednisone for around two years as they work well together for hemolytic anemia which is a spin off of my APS. I was then able to move off the Prednisone and after another two years was able to move off the Azothioprine all together as of around 6 months ago. Blood count continues to improve (touch wood).

I had no problems with it however it is known to cause greater levels of various skin cancers with longer term use. I think it is important to get regular mild does of sunlight despite this for the benefits from the valuable Vitamin D and to have your skin checked regularly by a dermotologist.

I am on azathioprine (currently 75mg) along with warfarin and hydroxyxhloroquine - for severe memory problems, lupus like syndrome, hypoperfusion of my temporal lobes on PET scan

I started it before at 50mg but at 100mg felt like I had flu. Took a break, then started it again. I have just gone up to 75mg and am feeling ok so far

Azathioprine is used to suppress the immune system and its dosage is related to your weight and not symptoms - have u recently put on a little weight?

It is not a blood thinner - so not sure why it would be increased due to microclots. Maybe that's a coincidence??

It's very difficult to understand the dosage and uses of all the drugs.

I have Lupus, Sjogrens, Hughes, Fibro, a heart condition and prolapsed discs do am on various med's including Az

Good luck. Hope this helps x

No have not put on weight if any thing have lost a bit 😄 I know aziophrine surpresses the immune system that's why prof hunt has increased my dose as my immune system she thinks needs to be surpressed even more to stop micro clots I guess ?
