Early miscarriages Hughes?
Hi I had a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks (stopped developed at 5-6) then two subsequent very early miscarriages (about 5 weeks or just before). I tested high positive for Igm cardiolipin (64). I was put on aspirin and progesterone when I next came pregnant (went to 8 weeks before medication started due to only just finding out about the positive Igm). I was then put on Fragmin injections (heparin) nightly from 10 weeks. I have now been told to stop them as I took a second blood test (privately) 8 weeks after the first and if came back negative. So I am now 14 weeks and fingers crossed all is going well so far. Will be on aspirin throughout pregnancy.
Mr Shehata (consultant I have seen) said in all his years of practice he sees either woman with the condition who loose babies very early on in first trimester OR later in second/third but never a combination of both. Therefore I now have hope as I am over 12 weeks.
Medication has helped loads of women on this site to have babies following miscarriages due to Hughes. Hope this helps x
Oh, this is good information about early vs late losses. My losses were also all in first trimester and I'm 20 weeks tomorrow but I am on heparin and aspirin for the duration of pregnancy as far as I'm aware. I feel reassured now I've read your post!
Best of luck with your pregnancy!
That is great to know pregantk. Thanks. I'm holding out hope I have something like this treatable hughes. I had a missed miscarriage at 8 weeks and ever since then can't get past 4 weeks 3 days, so your story sound similar. Thinking that miscarriage caused blood clot issues. I already am blessed with a 2 year old and would love to give her a sibling. So it would seem if I did test positive it developed after ...
I also have other (2) other children (aged 5 and 2) so if I do indeed have the condition, then I am thinking it developed after my first two as well. I think I must have just been lucky this time I got pregnant as I didn't start any medication until 8 weeks, so somehow this one survived implantation. I am classed as an older mum (37) so I was wondering if it was also something to do with egg health not being great. After researching on the issue I have ended up taking very expensive prenatal vista mins called Vitamin Code Raw prenatal vitamins. I read somewhere that the eggs start to mature and get ready for release 3 months before ovulation. As it happened I had taken these vitamins for exactly months before this (so far) successor pregnancy... It is hard playing a guessing game as to what might be he exact cause of the early miscarriages. Good luck with a successful pregnancy x
I must be one of the rare breeds that suffered in both first and third trimester.
I had 3 miscarriages at 9,6,5 weeks then at 29 weeks I had failed blood flow through placenta. My final pregnancy was a placental abruption at 33 weeks.
The only pregnancy I had no problems with was when I took aspirin.
My APS / Hughes was only diagnosed 7 years after I finished having babies!
Good luck and I hope all goes well xxx
Aw sorry for you losses. You've had a tough time, poor you. I'm glad to hear you had a good pregnancy in the end. I have started taking aspirin too.
The outcome if treated, due to having a diagnosis of Hughes Syndrome/APS is very favourable, do have a good look around the charity website, welcome by the way: hughes-syndrome.org/

I had 5 early miscarriages, all at 5/6 weeks. My 6th pregnancy I was treated with aspirin and heparin injections and I'm now sat here with my almost 3 year old daughter 😀
Yay another lovely story that brings me hope, thank you. I'm happy you were succesful
I had early miscarriages with all of my pregnancies the last was 9 weeks and I was taking aspirin and clexane....was told I was just unlucky and the chance of future pregnancies was very good. However have now been diagnosed with endometriosis also so my chances have dropped again. We have now decided to give up. Best of luck I have heard the outcome for a majority of women is very good
Did you have blood clotting issues , is that why you were given clexane and aspirin? Oh endometriosis, did that show up on your usual pelvic scan? How did you find out you had that? What were you symptoms. So many little details and things can go wrong Thank you and sorry for your losses.
I only have clotting I the placenta when I'm preg was diagnosed with high anti cardiolipin antibodies and therefore got a diagnosis of aps. My endometriosis was picked up on a laparoscopy after 18 months of left sided pain and back ache. A laparoscopy is the only way to diagnose endo. My periods were pretty light and only lasted 2 to 3 days. I also have quite a few adhesions inside too. Hope everything goes well for you hun x
Thank you I really hope so it's all I can think about...
I had 9 miscarriages some early on, some later but all before 26 weeks. This was in the 1990s so very early in the recurrent miscarriage clinics. I was given aspirin and heparin and now have a 19 year old son and twin daughters who are 16. Please don't give up hope! It can definitely happen!
Yay! A lovely story i love hearing stories like this gives me hope, thank you for sharing. i HOPE my issue is like that...
Hi, i had 5 very early misscarriages at 4-5 weeks and i found out i had Lupus anticoagulant (hughes syndrome). I started aspirin as soon as i found out and then fragmin when i got a faint positive but that did not work so i was so sad because i thought that was the answer! But then i contacted a private fertilityclinic and they gave me a combination of drugs that they Said almost always works, and that was: progesterone 2 Times' a day morning and evening from three days after ovulation (vaginal suppositories), aspirin 75mg from the beginning, PREDNISOLONE 10 mg from ovulation once a day and fragmin from plus and that worked for me the first time!!!! And im now in week 19 i think the Prednisolone did it for me. IT Will work for you to!! With or without all the meds, allthough the bloodthinning meds is really importent for you If you have hughes. Ask a fertility dr for more information. You can get pregnant and Thats a very positive thing! Wish U all the best! //Elin from sweden
That's great to hear. That sound like a lot of meds but I am glad it has helped. I probably just have to stick with whatever the NHS does and hope it works...
Yes, I did and am now in my 32nd week of my 4th pregnancy after injecting dalteparin twice daily and taking a baby aspirin so definitely works as my baby boy is growing perfectly with blood flow through the placenta just fine and dandy.
Great story, thanks for the sharing gives me some hope.
