Hi! My vit.d is 14 ng/L and my endocrinologist said that i should drink 3 drops daily of vit.d minimum three months. She said that my deficit of vit.d is related with thyroid and APS. What is yours opinions?

Best wishes to all...

It is important with autoimmune disease to be optimum with Vitamin D, B12 and iron, it sounds like she is taking good care of you. I know when mine got to 75 I was told that was pretty ideal. MaryF

Mine was checked this week. I'm at 73.8 and I'm shooting for 85. 14 is very low. APSnotfab is right on. Do check with your doctor about a higher dose to catch up.

Wow! 5 months ago my Vit D was very deficit. Now she told me it is ok at 32..normal is 25-79 here in the US. My potassium was also very low- it's now 4.1 which is low normal. Should these be higher? Designer16

If you are still feeling below par it may be better to aim for the higher end of the normal range rather than the lower end

I have no medical training. I think with a weakened immune system it might be beneficial to have your vitamin d3 result on the higher end. Be careful what number (conversion number or not) you are looking at.

Mine Test Result:

Standard Range: 30-80 ng/ml My Result: 73.3

Best summary on Vitamin D research I have seen is on this Doctor's M.S. site. While he speaks of M.S., there is a lot of overlap in autoimmune. Great article. I highly recommend reading it.

Just to make you feel better about 60% of London, UK is Vit D deficient!

Pharmacist hat!

Are you on Pro D3 drops? What strength are they? You should be taking at least 1-2,000 iu daily to get your levels up for at least a month or higher strengths on once to thrice weekly basis for 3-6 months. Then a maintenance dose of 400-800iu for a further 3 months.

As others have said also check your folic acid and B12 levels as they often drop with long term Vit D low values.

UK NHS recommendations for adults:

◾A normal level of vitamin D is defined as a 25OHD concentration greater than 30 ng/mL (75 nmol/L).

◾Vitamin D insufficiency is defined as a 25OHD concentration of 20 to 30 ng/mL (50 to 75 nmol/L).

◾Vitamin D deficiency is defined as a 25OHD level less than 20 ng/mL (50 nmol/L).

Less than 25nmol/L = deficient

Give colecalciferol as Invita D3 oral solution (first line) 2 ampoules weekly (50,000 IU/week) for 6-8 weeks or as Desunin 5 tablets daily (4000IU/day) for 12 weeks

Then advise OTC maintenance 800 IU daily
