Antiphospholipid & postpartum haemorrhage

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if a hughes syndrome is a possible cause of postpartum haemorrhage?

Many thanks!

I don't know if it had anything to do with the APLS but I had a massive bleed during my first sons birth and required a transfusion and with number 3 many years later I had huge clots passed after the birth

You would need to raise this with your medical team but I know when I was pregnant the fact I was on blood thinners greatly increased my risk so before labour I had to stop aspirin 10 days before and heparin 24 hours before my induction. So if your blood is thicker (as with APS) I would assume it doesn't increase your chances but there is always a risk with birth of a haemerage.

I had this after my first baby's birth which was prior to my dvt and diagnosis. Nobody ever asked the question during discussions and testing so would have to assume (in my personal opinion only) that it wasn't a feature otherwise the doctors would have raised? If you're unhappy or unsure then raising with your team would be the best option.

I too was diagnosed after the birth of my daughter, having emergency surgery and two blood transfusions. Makes me wonder if it is linked.

Thank you mcjm. there's not much information on it and I've not had an explanation for the haemorrhage. Probably never will I just wondered if anyone with aps had has this.

Hugs :)

I had a postpartum haemorrhage during the last part of a c section. Didn't need a transfusion as my blood count was very good. I was told it was due to fibroids that I have. I'd been on heparin but stopped already.
