Hi all... I'm 18 years old and I've recently been diagnosed with HS. To say I'm scared and confused is an understatement. I still don't have much knowledge on the illness apart from knowing it's very painful!

Does anyone have any tips on things that can help?

Thanks in advance!

Hi :).

Best advice I could give you is to track how your HS works for you. There could be many things that could affect it and finding out what what makes it worse will help with treatment.

If you're HS is worse around period time you could ask your doctor or dermatologist about what contraception may help.

Find out what others use to manage flares like Epson salts, dermol 500)(body wash), sudocrem, turmeric with black pepper, zink, vitamins that help with inflammation or the immune system, tea tree oil and coconut oil. You can look on forums and YouTube although be careful about people claiming they have a cure as some can be scams to try to get your money.

I would also try to tell someone who you know and trust that you have HS as it can sometimes feel very isolating and due to the stubbornness of the disease in regards to treatment, having someone to talk to when you feel frustrated will really help.

I would also research the disease as best you can. Knowing what it is and being familiar with treatment options will help when you speak to doctors or dermatologists as sometimes the patient can know more about the disease than the professional. :(. Many HS suffers have been misdiagnosed for years by medical professionals so being very familiar with it and your options will save you a lot of hassle when speaking to them.

If you ever have a bad day then people on the forums will be here aswell.

Hope this helps x

Try soaking in bathtub with Epsom salt several times a day if needed, or every day; try a paleo diet; limit your stress; exercise when you're able to, but shower afterwards; drink lots of water to flush toxins out of your body; warm compresses directly to the cyst or boil; tea tree oil.. there's so much you can try for yourself.. everyone's HS is different (different triggers, different pain management and treatments). Read up on HS and find yourself a great dermatologist who specializes in HS. Best if luck!!!❤

Hiya, I've been using collidial silver gel and omg it's amazing to my skin, I have flares everywhere and each month it's worse (hormonal) but I have been using silver and I won't go back. Everyone it's worth trying, but use gel not cream as cream has lanolin in and it doesn't help but the gel does a lot. Well so far so good I really hope it keeps working as draws all the gunk out on a daily basis and the lumps are now flat. Still need healing but glad not swollen and painful. Hope this helps

Also I am trialling metformin which diabetics use and I feel it's helping, only been on it 2 months as well but because mines hormonal it's supposed to keep the levels lower. Also taking zinc and magnesium on a daily basis.

I agree Maggies. Silver gel has been a Godsend to me. I went through many, many painful steroid injections. The pain from that was worse then the disease. Eased the hs pain but not my condition. I now have osteoprosis in my left hip. I stopped getting them 4 years ago. I discovered if you apply silver gel on the site, use 2 4x4 gauze pads with a liberal amount of gel smeared and applied it (no tape) it draws the disgusting stuff out.
