Help my son with aspergers sectioned wrongly.

Hi, my son was suspected to have aspergers at school but didn't complete his assessment. After my separation from his dad at 17 behaviour gave me cause for concern. He was quiet didn't come out of the room and didn't like facial contact. This started to affect his daily activities. So I went to the doctors which refered him too mental health services. Upon being put on antipsychotic my son became mute , so they sectioned him ad said they were treating schizophrenia. The meds have made him very ill but done nothing positive but to make him behave stupid and mad. psychiatrist don't understand neurological developmental disorders as such once one person say it is mental they will carry on with that course of treatment . No body listens to me and they have pursued a course of action to prove their point that makes him look , and behave mad. he is clearly off his base line. I am at breaking point . The meds make him aggressive , whereas before he was a mild manner bright boy. Currently he has lost his intelligence and says stupid things which are interpreted as psychosis.

Please help if anyone has been I this situation and advice.

I am so sorry to hear about your situation. My sons were late diagnosis Asbergers so I do understand. I am also trying to get a diagnosis of Pathological Demand Avoidance Syndrome PDA. If your sons behaviour inczluded severe Demand Avoidance look this issue up. You can have this on its own or with ADHD , and Asbergers. Ring withdrawn , spending time in his room alone, probably on computer games, poor eye contact, you can also have good eye contact, tell them to follow the NICE guidelines. Being mute is another sign. Anxiety is the biggest issue in Autism Spectrum. Drugs like Ritalin the contraindications are Anxiety , so they will make him worse.

Lots of information on here.

In Autism Spectrum each case is unique , it's like a fingerprint. The tick boxes question is hopeless. Children mask their feeling in school, when they comes home it's like a pressure cooker they explode.

CAMHS are normally utterly clueless about Autism Spectrum. Can I suggest you look at PlanetAutism Blog Page. There are great info sheets. Her FB page has some wonderful articles about the issues, eating, sleeping , homework, how they cope with social situations , there is masses you can read.

She has just started a name and shame page. The situation throughout the Country is absolutely appaling with the lack of understanding.

PDA Society has a Website with masses of information.

The common thing is to wrongly diagnose with attachment disorder or PTSD.

Unfortunately one of the best ways is a private consultation with someone like Dr Hilary Dyer .

If it is PDA there are specialists who will diagnose. The information is on their website. There is also a confidential email contact .

There are families in exactly the same situation as you . If you look on the website you can see what they have done. You need to register online.

I hope this starts you finding your answers. If you look through my previous postings there is masses of information.

Good luck xx

Risperidone works wonders for Autism. Maybe try this? Go slow with dosing. I do Psychiatric work and this medication has changed lives. Prayers🙏🏻

If you haven't already, and if your son is still sectioned, request to view his care plan and get clarity about what has been decided about current management and treatment, plans for future treatment, including the medication. What is your son asking you and others to do about his situation? Are you involved in his care and how often is his care formally reviewed? Does he have contact with his father and if not, does he understand why not?
