I’m male in my late 20’s, recently had unprotected insertive heterosexual sex, about 3 weeks later I had this rash on my elbow, stomach cramps, sore throat, nasal congestion.. no fevers at all, no night sweats.. though I have anxiety which is even making matters worse cos I think all day . I already booked an appointment with the clinic so I can get tested .. 5 days from now which makes is 37 days from date of exposure. Please is 37 days enough to detect the virus.. and could this be an hiv rash ? Please I need helpful answers as I’m someone who is dealing with severe anxiety and depression.. Thanks

No HIV seroconversion rash is totally different and doesnt occur on the elbow only.

UK guidelines now suggest testing at 45 days to be as close to 100% sure as possible. 37 days will still be pretty reassuring for you.

You should think what is the chance of the person you had sex with having HIV .

In UK -

Heterosexual women Black African 8.7 per 1000 - 0.87 %

Non-Black African 0.1 per 1000 - 0.01%

then theres the event, and the risk of acquiring HIV from just one episode of unprotected sex. This is less if you are circumcised.

Doing a fancy equation , EVEN if the person is HIV positive, and IF they are not on treatment ( 95% or more of people living with HIV are on treatment ) or dont know their status, the chance of acquiring HIV through one episode of unprotected vaginal sex is 1 in 1,219 .

People often over estimate their risk. Do get an STI screen however - if you are in the 18-24 age group there is a one in ten chance of getting chlamydia .

My test came out negative for all stds, and I’m told I have to repeat hiv p24 antigen and antibody test in 3 months which should be early November.. I’m already having anxiety disorders cos I no longer have contact with my ex as she moved to another country. I had this rashes on my legs which lasted for about 4 days …plz see picture, I get chills with no fever, mild headache, I really don’t know how to deal with the anxiety situation.. must confess I’m worried about my health.. apologies for the blurry picture

There is no need for a p24 antigen as this is only positive within 6 weeks or less of a new infection

How many days is it now since the sexual contact
