I would like to know if your using Prep, when you have you doctor check you to see if Prep is working correctly, is he checking for all the other stds too? It’s seems everyone thinks Prep is going protect you against all stds and I think this needs to be addressed.

Prep has been hailed as an all wonderful release from the fear of HIV infection - but the truth is it has several draw backs . Firstly strict adherence is vital because any deviance from correct dosage runs the risk of developing resistant virus . Truvada itself has side affects , irreversible kidney damage being one . The blood tests done on someone on Prep will be to ascertain virus levels and side affects of the drug . STI's come under a separate remit , and require a sexual health check .

You are correct , STI's are rife and Prep is no protection against them . I can see that ultimately the use of Prep is going to cause problems .

There is another concern. Most of these gay dating(sex) sites are strongly promoting the use of Prep and when you talk to these guys on these sites, most of them are not using condoms and wanting to breed.

There doesn’t seem to be any concern that first, Prep doesn’t prevent other stds. And second, that all these guys having unprotected sex that if something else would appear, it would be a replay of hiv and all these guys having it.

There was a major outbreak of syphilis in Florida at a white party. And recently I read that there is a super gonorrhea that the medication to treat it doesn’t work.

To me, it seems that Prep is causing even more unsafe play among men and these days a lot more in the general public are having sex with men.

I suppose the medical professions outlook is that preventing the spread of HIV can only be a good thing - but it seems no one has thought this through .

What can you tell me about this Super Gonorrhea?

By " super " I'm guessing they mean antibiotic resistant gonorrhoea .

I picked up a dose of gonorrhoea some years ago and self medicated with amoxicillin , which cured it . However when I went to the clinic I was told that I was very lucky because amoxicillin is no longer effective treatment .

To be honest I have given up sex because just about every time I have met someone I have caught an STI .
