Should I be worried?

Hi all,

So im new here but I have a few concerns that I was hoping to get some clarification on, so here goes…….

Some time ago i was taken to hospital with a suspected PE (blood clot), I had some scans done and thankfully no blood clot was found. A few weeks later and I was looking over my medical records and noticed on the letter to my GP with my test results it noted I had an enlarged spleen and liver (it was written in medical terms, but I’m not so good at the spelling side) as the drs didn’t say anything when giving me my results for the PE I presumed it was nothing to be concerned about, I had also had some bloods that showed a slight raise in my ALT levels though nothing that worried the dr. This week after some more bloods my ALT levels have risen again to 67, I mentioned to the dr about the letter that stated an enlarged spleen and liver, he reviewed it and is now sending me for urgent ultra sound and more “targeted bloods”.

Little back ground history for the full picture, I’m 32 I suffer with fibromyalgia, severe Vit D deficiency, folic acid deficiency my B12 seems to be all over the place. I’ve been on codeine for about 5 years solid now amongst other pain killers on and off (gabapentin, amatriptalin). I am t-total…I haven’t had an alcoholic drink in over 7 years, drinking is just something that does not appeal to me

When I asked my drs what’s caused this, he responded I’m concerned there’s an autoimmune disease that we need to start treatment for.

I have been left feeling pretty scared, i have 3 complex needs children who need there mummy, and with my fibromyalgia already having a huge impact on my day to day ability’s, well I’m terrified!

So I suppose I was hoping someone could let me know am I over thinking this or over reacting or maybe prepare for the worst hope for the best maybe?

I wish you all good health and happy times.

Thank you for reading x

Hi , Without a proper diagnosis it is impossible to say . I am puzzled why you are having a problem metabolising vitamins , which I will look up later .It does seem possible that you have autoimmune hepatitis - but really until there is a correct diagnosis we can only guess .

Right , a quick google search suggests that your problems with vitamin absorption may well be caused by an autoimmune problem , so this looks like the line you should take if you want to find out more . Please remember that I am not a health care professional , I'm just trying to offer support . Please let us know how you get on .

Hi griffon,

Thank you for taking the time to, read, research and reply to my post.

I’m definitely a bit concerned but I suppose I have to try and be patient.

I will of course let you know.

Thank you again

I know waiting is terrible , but that's all you can do I'm afraid until you get a diagnosis .

Hi griffon, I just wanted to let you know how my tests have gone, so I have been told I’m hep B positive, we are still not sure if this is acute or chronic but as the drs saw signs of enlarged liver and Alt levels started rising 2 years ago, it doesn’t look good. I have no idea how I could of contracted this, I hardly leave the house with 3 special needs children at home there isn’t much time to do anything other than look after them, My self and husband don’t go out socialising, we don’t drink, nor drugs, it’s a bit of a mystery :/ any way I just wanted to let you know, after you took the time to research and reply to my post. I do hope your well, thanks again

Hi , so pleased you have come back .You may not see it as such but a Hep.B diagnosis is actually a much better one to have than autoimmune hepatitis .

The bodies immune system can usually clear the infection on its own. However if you have had the infection a while it may be chronic and that can be controled with medication . They will most likely do a viral count to determin what stage your infection is at .

I aquired my infection through sex , so I expect they will want to test your partner as well.

I am on treatment and I am fine . I try to help my liver by eating a good diet , staying a healthy weight and not drinking or smoking - all common sense really .

Don't worry , you are going to be ok too .
