I had hepatitis c. I was cured but now I've had a letter saying my fibroscan results came back at a median value of 14.5 which is in keeping with f4 fibrosis. Does this mean I'm dying? They haven't told me anything. I'm terrified.

Hi, it would be helpful to know a bit more about your situation to guide you, but of course the team who did the Fibroscan are best placed to give you information and should have explained the results to you. If you do not have a follow up appointment booked with them, I would encourage you to speak to your GP for further guidance.

A Fibroscan reading is a useful guide to assessing liver damage, but only tells part of the story and results can vary, so usually blood tests and an ultrasound as well will give a full picture of what is going on. It is good to hear you have cleared your hep C infection. This Fibroscan result does not mean you are in a life threatening situation, but it does mean you need to take care of your liver - eg maintain a healthy weight, no alcohol, good diet etc to support it, and it is important that any other possible causes are ruled out. If you would like to speak to us please do call on our helpline for more information and support.
