I’ve been experiencing tachycardia, so I’m just wondering what medicine do you guys take to control your heart rate? I tried propranolol, but it made my fingers/toes tingle. I tried atenolol, but it caused headaches and ear pain. I was just prescribed 30mg diltiazem hcl, but it seems like I’ve gotten a rash from that. I know my doctor is tired of me, but hopefully very soon I’m able to find that one medicine that gets the job done with side effects that are at least bearable.

Oooo you poor thing I really do empathise with you!! I can’t take beta blockers like you they affect me but mainly it drops my blood pressure that’s already low so I’m in flecanaide 50mg tsbs daily he wanted to put me on sotolol (just for something different) but it’s still a ‘lol’ and a Beta blocker he changed his mind a few hours later and rang me back. I do hope your consultant can sort you out. I have ventricular tachycardia now in top of the atrial fibrillation and flutter and it’s jolly horrible!! I’m having further tests
Hi KiaE, sad to say most treatments for tachycardia of any source are nearly as bad as the condition itself. They often help somewhat but commonly cause some kind of side effects, or are only partially successful. I take bisoprolol 5mg daily. That's a beta blocker which causes the heart to beat with less force and usually a little slower, but it can also make you feel very sluggish and fatigued. I think that the only thing you can do is to ignore any impatience from your doctor and just continue to state your objections to whatever medication it is that hasn't worked out for you, until you find one which will help you.
I was diagnosed with Inappropriate tachycardia (IST) a few years ago plus some other bits including SVT. It took a while but what worked for me was... magnesium morning and night, atenolol at night before bed as it would drop my blood pressure too much during the day and night worked out better. I also had Ivabridine morning and night (no heart failure) it was specifically for the IST. And then flecinaide was a break through medication if required. This worked for me, been two years off all meds now and doing great. Just keep going back to the doctor. It does take trial and error and hopefully something works better for you soon. Wishing you all the best, so exhausting.
