Kardia reading “unclassified”

Whenever my heart rate jumps, it usually ends up around 150 and Kardia reads as “unclassified” and looks like the reading below. Just trying to give it a name. Tachycardia? Flutter? Does anyone else have a similar experience? I’ve had several ablations. This is the last remaining problem, I hope!

Hello lovetogarden,

It's always as well to remember that event monitors such as the Kardia or iwatch EGC can't cope with all eventualities. For example, my iwatch will give a 'sinus rhythm' reading for events that last less than the 30 seconds of recording, or flag it up as a 'poor recording' or 'unclassified' if my heart beat fluctuates wildly during the recording period. Although the Kardia is accepted by the medical profession as a good tool, it's only an informal way of finding out that something may be amiss. It's not accepted as evidence for diagnosis, which endorses the fact that it's not perfect.

So, if you've reached the stage where you are feeling uncomfortable, or are worried that symptoms are returning, I'd seek a consultation with a trained medical professional. There will be people using this forum who are capable of interpreting the example you've posted, but what are they really reading? Is it a true representation of what your heart's telling you, or do you need further investigation?

All you really need, to tell if you have tachycardia, is a pulse point, a finger and the ability to count. I think sometimes we forget that, in these days of advanced technologies to monitor our health. If your heart rate is over 100 at rest, that's classified as tachycardia.

Thanks Callendersgal. Yes, tachycardia for sure. You’re right, we don’t need the Kardia to know that do we! 😀 But I do like to have recordings to send to my EP though and to track history. The newer 6 lead Kardia includes so much info, it’s magic. And since I’m on meds that can result in long qt problems, I find it fascinating that the recordings can reveal that problem.

Looks like Sinus Tachycardia. Yes, the Kardia 6L is the best and well respected too.

I'd recommend getting the Kardia 6L device if you don't have it. If you do there is an option in the app to send the ECG off for review to be reviewed by somebody. It costs £5 each time but I find it helpful from a peace of mind point of view without having to run to my cardiologist.

Thanks, yes, I do have the 6 lead Kardia. And have done the same w paying to send a reading off now and then. It’s handy to have that option, isn’t it.
