So I had bad run of ectopics that started a couple of years ago... got everything checked countless times... ECG monitors, 24hr tape etc and even an ultrasound. Confirmed ectopics but was told they’re harmless. They’ve started up again and feeling loads every day and still making me feel very anxious (I know doesn’t help as I suspect they’ve been brought on by stress anyway!)
Are they really as harmless as I’ve been told and they feel so scary... as if my heart could stop anytime I get one! Don’t want to get it checked out again as I know what they’ll say....??
Thanks

Hi.....please be reassured that they are probably stress related. Even perfectly healthy people get ectopics but they go unnoticed by most people. If you’ve got a health problem you suddenly become “tuned in” to everything that goes on with you. I’ve got a rare heart condition and get runs of ectopics frequently ....they used to frighten the life out of me but I’ve learned to live with them. If you smoke ...GIVE UP and I found unfortunately !...that even a little alcohol can start them off . RELAX.
Hello, I am sorry to read you are feeling anxious, try not to worry, please ensure you follow all the necessary measures you would normally do when the ectopics occur, but if you feel they are becoming more apparent then it is advisable that you contact your Dr for medical advice. Please do not hesitate to contact us direct on info@heartrhythmalliance.org
Hello, I know how you feel as I've had ectopics for a few years....not just a few extra beats but they could be so frequent that they morph into AF. There is no rhyme or reason when they get worse. For me stress is not a cause, but when they come on heavy I suddenly feel anxious. I could for a moment wonder why I'm suddenly anxious, and then realise, oh it's the ectopics. My cardiologist has put me on Flecainide and Bisoprolol, which has helped a lot, but not entirely eradicated them. Something I have to live with. If you are getting a lot of ectopics, very frequently, they can morph into AF, something I was not aware of (even though I am a doctor). I advise a word with your cardiologist, as they can consider medication to reduce the ectopics and let you have a better quality of life. Good luck!
Please see my responses above to Saltwater and Gracietiger posts. These ectopics are horrendous as i know ongoing from my own experience. Best wishes i hope you find some answers and support.
I had 11% ectopics for 11 months. Then someone on this forum mentioned that years ago their cardiologist had told them that a magnesium supplement is good for ectopics. So I bought some Magnesium Citrate 200mg tablets and took 2 a day. After 3 weeks my heart beats returned to normal. That's after 11 months of having 2 to 3 missed beats every minute of every hour. It's now 10 weeks since I last had an ectopic.I've cut the magnesium down to 300mg a day as 400mg was just over the recommended upper limit. But will I continue to take the magnesium? Have a wild guess!
Dr Gupta has a number of videos on his YouTube channel I’ve watched them all recently & found them very useful. I now know mine are vagal (when resting) & im going to get them checked out because I have a lot!
