Covid 19 and PVCs.

Hi friends I am currently in isolation as I tested positive on Monday for covid 19. Since I have been suffering with PVCs since last summer (on and off) I would like to know if any of you who suffer from ectopics have also had the misfortune of contracting this virus and how you fared. I am somewhat at peace cos I have had all sorts of cardiac tests done and everything shows a completely normal heart but still would be great to know how you managed and did the virus actually make your ectopics worse ?

Hi Sue been a few days now since I started having flu like symptoms and subsequently ending up testing positive on Monday. My PVCs come and go I can be days on end without any followed by days with loads of them so when I started with the covid symptoms I felt somewhat more at ease as it seemed the ectopic beats had gone but yesterday they returned and have had them since making my covid experience much more anxious. Phoned a duty GP today who reassured me that given all the tests I have had during the latter part of last year which show a healthy structural heart there was not much to worry about. She went on to point out that when the body is fighting an infection heart rate will rise and if you suffer from ectopics or missed beats they would happen more often during this period. I will keep you updated as I go through this nasty virus. Stay safe. Covid 19 is quite unpleasant.

Hi,

Thanks for replying back, sorry to hear your ectopic beats have come back 🙁 but enough feeling rough from COVID don’t need extra anxiety...

I’ve been so worried about catching COVID and it making my missed beats ten times worse , Iam worrying before it’s happened 🙄

Well I wish you a speedy recovery, hope to speak again soon ...

All the best

Sue

12 months ago I had bad 'bronchitis' for 3 weeks. 1 week later I developed irregular heartbeats which is a well known after affect of Covid19. Also a cough that never goes away and doesn't show up on an ordinary x ray. I'm sure it was Covid not bronchitis. No medication needed for ectopic beats but the fitted a pacemaker as a precaution in case my heartbeats go down below 40 whilst sleeping.

I'm 77 by the way. Sorry KopEnd that doesn't really answer your question.

Hi KopEnd

You are on the right path to fixing this wretched syndrome...firstly the vagus nerve shares the main pathway between throat , stomach , lungs and heart before it filters into lower extremeties. This is why so many people get "heart" issues when they get stomach issues. Look into vagal nerve strengthening exercises....humming deep within the chest is helpful as this relaxes vagal tone and should bring relief.

Secondly and more importantly, in order to address the rhythm please seriously look into my suugestions...they have worked for me and other people i know.

I too have have several types of arrythmias over the years, mainly ectopics.Imagine my surprize after 35 years of having several different Doctors try to solve the problem with beta blockers etc.I did a youtube search about 18 months ago and found the york cardiologist talking about Magnesium Taurate. Thus began my journey into magnesium.

Taurate is the only ONE found in large measure in the heart muscle and is given to people who mainly have AF.I began taking 250 mg a day and within 3 days my ectopics more or less stopped.I also found glycinate is good for overall anxiety, and threonate is good for the brain, memory.Nowadays i take 500 mg of both and have no ongoing issues for the past year.

Finally look at D-ribose which is a signalling molecule supplement often used by athletes and weight trainers because it helps electrical conductivity within the nerve fibres especially the vagus and heart.

Reasearch Dr.Carolyn Dean and you will begin to see the common denominator in most illness stems from low magnesium. It is leeched out of the soil and farmers only put back nitrogen and phosphate, so our foods are sadly lower in this vital mineral.

If you are unduly stressed , ill or a heavy drinker, you will certainly be low on magnesium.....Stay safe be happy get well.

I am searching for the source of my ectopics, and will be trying magnesium as it makes sense to me. My cardiologist gave me the ok for it, saying it won't react with my diltiazem or metoprolol. Have you read that beta blockers cause any problems with magnesium use? Thanks

in reply toR2958

No beta blockers only block the Adrenalin receptors in the heart ... magnesium has no adverse effects on other drugs but be aware... Mg switches up dormant enzymes and is thought to increase the effect of most pharmaceuticals because the body processes work much better..calcium is the overlooked problem.. hence calcium channel blockers.. see if you can reduce your calcium intake that alone often lessens ectopics... magnesium is the opposite side of the seesaw.

Ok, thank you for the info Jomico. I've started at 250mg of magnesium per day to see how it goes, and I will cut back on my milk and cheese calcium intake. I so much prefer the approach of going after the cause, versus throwing medication at the symptoms.

in reply toR2958

Some more thoughts...You cannot avoid calcium ... it’s in most foods...vegetables too ... but here’s the thing... it is in the right ratio with magnesium ... in things like spinach..get it in balance... dairy throws it out of whack.... inflammation does... too much vitamin D which increases circulating calcium in serum... need K2 to redress this...some mk4 others mk7..poor parathyroid function.. (women suffer this more) upsets calcium levels... look at proteolytic enzymes... such as bromelain, these reduce inflammation and eat up fibrous deposits which often cause calcium to deposit in tissue..switch from omega 6 to omega 3 oils... you can see why it’s a difficult issue to fathom out just by taking a pill.

Experiment... keep notes.

Hi, I have mainly accidental VPBs , which have been well controlled by 1.25 mg Bisoprolol ,taken daily. For over a year now. I recently contracted the Omicron variant which duly ran its heavy cold-like course. I do not know how the ectopics were during the illness but, when home, my handheld Emay monitor showed a slightly higher incidence. Two weeks on everything is back to where it was prior to the Covid. So I would say with mild Covid, in my case, it has been of little consequence. {no structural heart defects btw]

Hi there,

I had covid December 2021, through to the January. I was on meds, post ablation ( May 2021), and had aching, flu like symptoms but no cough, blood shot eyes, headaches and fatigue. My HR and ectopics didn’t increase at all. I recovered pretty well initially. I, like you, have a structurally normal heart and arteries.

Unfortunately, I have long covid now, I believe that is more likely to do with my age (47), being female and my profession - I seem to tick all those boxes. The biggest symptom is fatigue, joint and muscle problems of the back, shoulders and arms. I think my body was still recovering from the ablation and it caught my immune system at the wrong time, rather than it being related to arrhythmia issues.

Hope you recover quickly from covid. Take care.
