Hi was supposed to go through a procedure at hospital on Friday and they had asked me to stop my beta blockers 3 days before the procedure which I complied. On the Thursday I was booked in for a ultrasound and I turned up for my appointment. Whilst I was being prepared I was asked if I had checked my pulse rate? I said no but informed her of the stopping of my beta blockers. She stopped and said that she had to go and see the cardiologist. In quick succession two cardiologist arrived in room saying that my heart rate was above 150! I always was led to believe that my pacemaker would control my rate to it’s upper level of 120. I have now been informed that the pacemaker only stops the heart rate going lower than 60. My pulse is still high for me, high 80’s when before I stopped the beta blockers it stayed at 60 . The cardiologist has increased my dosage to 5mg when I was taken to A&E on Friday suffering from chest tightness and covered in sweat.
Should I have been told that pacemakers doesn’t control the heart rate at its high setting?
