Thud

Many years ago l was diagnosed with ectopic heart beats they always caught me out but more recently they are more like a thud in my upper chest they can happen at any time and can hurt at times. I was told over 10 years by a cardiologist that l could have medication that would help but he left it to me decide so l never bothered as on other meds for unrelated conditions. Does anybody have this thud. I’m 68.

Yes I had them all the time. At first they were very infrequent but grew more frequent and forceful over a few years until they were so bothersome I sought a cardiologist’s advice. The thudding was so powerful my chest would visibly pound. I had left ventricular ectopics and underwent a catheter ablation that reduced them by about 80-90%. Best decision ever made! Although I tried medication for 6 months, it did not help me. I know ablations for ectopics are considered rare but I was already having an EP study so I gave them permission to ablate if they could safely do so. I know just how disconcerting that THUD is!

Thank you for replying l think l probably need to go back and see a cardiologist. It worries me because when it happens it hursts now. I don’t get breathless but l do get scared if I’m in the swimming pool and it happens.

I'm in permanent AF and the ectopics are only occasional or is it just difficult to distinguish between them ? The big one I was getting ready for bed and it threw me forward on to the bed and it broke one of the castors off.

My palps are so severe that they are painful. This makes me pretty much housebound.

I have been to A&E 3 times and spent 18 days in total as an in patient undergoing numerous tests that came to null. Last discharge paper states "possible ablation candidate". Heard nothing for 7 weeks now.
