waveform deviation

I have a home monitor which I use when I am feeling symptoms (seeing cardiologist next week) it sometimes shows waveform deviations and I am usually feeling unwell from irregular or more rapid heartbeats when it happens. Not on regular meds but feel that symptoms are happening more frequently. GP thought I had PAF when referring me. Does anyone know what waveform deviation means. Also my resting heart rate is normally in the 50s per min.

I have a pocket ECG monitor and I used to worry about my husband because he almost invariably got 'deviating waveform' when he tried the monitor out. It's mine and I use it because I have atrial fibrillation. I have only myself once or twice had a diagnosis that includes 'deviating waveform' in which case a distinct interruption somewhere can be seen on the 28 second trace.

My husband has had quite a lot of investigation with blood pressure issues (he drops quite low when standing and the readings are far higher if he's sitting) and did a 48 hour ECG. The only professional comment that has been made about his heartbeat is that he has a lot of ectopics.

I am going therefore to suggest, with no specific knowledge to back it up, that waveform deviation may perhaps be a term used to indicate a wobble of some sort, similar to an ectopic beat.

Thank you Rellim, I have some readings on my home monitor so will take it to cardiologist on Thursday, the loop monitor I had from hospital showed very little, but my symptoms seem to be more irregular beats.

Regards,

Joy

Hi Joy, I believe it is a general term used that doesn't give you any 'specific' explanation. Everyone uses abbreviations these days .... I imagine this is Atrial Fibrillation? You can spend as I have the next few years (due to sheer exasperation!) on Google and key in the PAF (words in full) + ECG and look at the text and also images. It may give you some idea or quite simply just go and ask at the GP Practice to confirm. Hopefully they will help you and put your mind at rest. All the best.

Hello everyone, apologies for stepping into this conversation so late... I just joined this community today.

I've been scouring the internet for a home ECG monitor that I could use to record my symptoms. I wore a 2 week holter monitor back in April which showed several episodes of PAC's and PVC's. Doctor said they were minimum episodes and put me on the lowest dose of metoprolol.

Metoprolol has worked on palpitations (I no longer feel the hard thump thump of my heart beating) but the irregular heartbeat and skipping/extra beats has been occurring with much more frequency daily. I'd like to record these to prove I'm not going crazy. When in asked my cardiologist's nurse about procuring one, she said they don't have anything on the market for the public. I told her that I see quite a few online, she said they were not going to be accurate.

I decided to look to the people like me, who have been through similar and have tried these home ECG monitors. I'll trust you all more than myself blindly buying one online.

Any ideas on a home ECG monitor that works on recording the PAC's and PVC's that doesn't cost thousands of dollars?

Thank you all so much!! I'm grateful I found you all; I've been struggling daily for months and have been fighting off despair. :-)
