Stopping bisoprolol

Hi there, I just wanted some reassurance really, today I’m having a bp monitor for 24hrs then an exercise test tomorrow so iv been told to stop my bisoprolol for this time (just over 24hrs) and I’m really worried as I know just stopping beta blockers can be dangerous, I know it’s only for a short amount of time but I just want to know that I’ll be ok? I take my bisoprolol at around 10am every morning and my appointments are at 1:30pm and I’m on 1.25mg

Hello,

Thank you for your post.

I can understand why the concept of stopping your Bisoprolol may be daunting to you, but this would have been advised by your specialist for a good reason, with your best interests at heart. Our advice would be to stop taking the Bisoprolol as advised, but to immediately call 111 or your specialist if you feel unwell or uncomfortable at any time.

Good luck, and please do let us know if we can do anything else to help you.

Best Wishes,

Charlene

Hello Hayleywayley. I hope you have already been reassured by what Charleneadmin has said.

I am sorry to say that I have occasionally omitted to take my atenolol which is similar to bisoprolol and have not noticed until the following evening. It doesn't seem to affect me in any adverse way.

Like you I've sometimes had to drop medication before a procedure and, as I've been going to hospital, I have felt sure that I would be safe there.

I hope this is helpful.

(PS Although I have only just joined here, I have been a member of the AFA forum for four years. It's quite a busy forum. This seems rather quiet in comparison).

Hi, im on Bisoprolol 2.5 mg at the moment about to go up to 5 mg , if im a few hours late taking mine i know about it and can become quite breathless. Hopefully as you’re on quite a low dose you won’t suffer any side affects but should you do know they are normal and not dangerous. All the best for your tests.
