Fast pulse

I've been on amioderone for four years and my consultant decided to reduce the dose by more than half three months ago. For the last 36 hours I have had a pulse of around 100. Normally a steady 60. I was told to take bisopropol 250mg in this event but so far without effect. Has anyone any idea how long it takes to kick in?

Did you mean 2.5mg Bisoprolol?

Sorry, yes. Still not working though. E.

Eric, I'm assuming you mean 2.50mg Bisoprolol. 250mg would be pretty drastic!!! You can expect Bisop. to kick in within 15/30 mins. Certainly within 1 hr.

Yes, thanks. Not having any effect as yet although my BP has dropped to 107 from usual 135. E.

Eric, you will need medical advice to increase your dose. We are not qualified to do so.

If you can't get hold of advice this weekend and otherwise feel OK you should seek this on Monday .

I'm a patient and not a doctor but I take Bisoprolol daily 10mg. Do you mean 2.5mg as that was quite ineffectual for me? Ask your doctor do you need 10mg. I'm in AF permanently so my pulse is too erratic to give a reading as such.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Tony,

I'm still not back to normal after 48hrs. Pulse 110 compared to my normal 60. I took 2.5 Bisopropol yesterday and my Blood pressure fell to 95/69 so I'm reluctant to take any more. Thinking of A and E at present but may give it another day. EricW.

I agree, you should build up the dosage of Bisoprolol. I do think A&E is a good idea with your pulse and blood pressure, that's probably what your heart failure team would advise.

You should not jump straight to 10mg. Bisoprolol is one of those medicines that must be increased slowly (I was told) Because the effects build up slowly.
