Yes, they do exist in the UK but seem to be rather thin on the ground. My cardiologist recommended me to an EP for my SVT and I had a long wait but it was worth it to have his advice.

Thanks. Your EP isn't based at Sheffield Northern General by any hopeful chance ?!!!

No. Royal Sussex Brighton, I'm afraid. But I'm sure you've got more in Sheffield than we have here. I remember there being several hospitals there when I was there at University but that was in the last century! Good luck in finding one.

Hi Steph,

If you google cardiology as a department in the Sheffield hospitals Trust, you may find a list of staff. A lot of hospitals "introduce" their staff on their website.

If you can find a hospital which has a pacemaker clinic you will find someone with training in Electro-physiologist in charge over there for sure!

Sheffield has one of the top universities for medicine. I would expect to find some pretty well informed doctors around there and I think that general cardiologists spend time training on both plumbing (bunged up arteries) and electrics (conduction issues), because both can affect patients and so they need to know about them.

Papworth & Glenfield are the top heart hospitals in the UK. Glenfield isn't too far away if you can't find a pacing clinic in Sheffield....but I'm sure that you will find someone.

This link from the arrhythmia alliance may be worth a look and a phone call if not.

Dear Stephanietee

You can find a list of heart rhythm specialists on our website: heartrhythmspecialists.org . In the Select Country drop down, choose UK and then click search. You will now see a list of heart rhythm specialists in the UK sorted by location. Under area of interest you will be able to see their specialty. Typically everyone who has a heart next to their name is an Electrophysiologist as they have the ability to perform ablations. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Patient Services on 01789 867501 or info@heartrhythmcharity.org.uk.
