I had an echocardiogram in March and told mitral valve was leaking. Echocardiogram was repeated in April. Saw a consultant last week and was told that heart function had gone from 55 to 46%. Any morale boosting or ideas would be welcomed. Best wishes, Robin.

Leaking mitral valve
Heart function( reduced below 39-40%% /Mildly reduced( 40% - 49%)/perserved 50% +) by this I think you are referring to the heart's Ejection Fraction which has a normal range of 50% - 70% but this refers to Heart Failure which can be reduced ot perversed your leaking MV may have caused this, at 46% you are near to good taking up physical activities, along with good diet and of course taking your medication will help.
Best Wishes
I was first diagnosed with a 'leaky' mitral valve in 1981 (I was 15). Since then I've had three operations replacing the faulty valve and two different pacemakers. I've been in persistent AF for the last thirty years and my heart function is near your level. I can't say it's been plain sailing but I find it amazing how much medical science keeps improving. I was lucky to make twenty so at 58 I feel blessed, it's all down to the wonderful NHS and it's fantastic teams of doctors and nurses. A leaky valve isn't the death sentence it once was, there is every reason to feel positive about your treatment and your future. Be kind to yourself x
