I am waiting on a date for my abdominal hysterectomy. (Adenomyosis and fibroids). Ovaries appear on MRI to be ok so consultant has said they will stay unless no choice during surgery. I am mid 40s.
I have been asked to decide if I want to keep my cervix.
I’m quite open to having it removed, no future cancer risk no smears but consultant mentioned risk of prolapse.
Any body got any advise / thoughts or experience they don’t mind sharing.
I was 37 when i had a total hyster with removal of both tubes, one ovary, cervix, and excision of stage 4 endo. I wasnt advised of prolapse myself just told better to take it than leave it due. I am aware that my pelvic floor is weak but told pelvic floor exercises should sort it. I had no previous history with problems with smear tests results.
Hi, did you make a decision as to the cervix ? I am assuming you may have had your surgery by now . I had TLH and BSO on 12 Oct , I must say it does feel different up there when I do my pelvic floor excercisies but not in any bad way . For me, I had the same diagnosis as yourself and the weight of reducing cancer risk outweighed the prolapse risk. Let me know where your at, we
May be at similar recovery time . If your still waiting then good look, and I feel 100 times better than I did ! Hug 🤗
