Hi there. I had a partial, laparoscopic hysterectomy 6 weeks ago due to several large fibroids. I took about two years to decide if I would have the hysterectomy or not (I'm sure I would have taken longer if my symptoms hadn't become unbearable). I am not certain what your main hesitations or considerations are--for me, it was whether or not I wanted to have a child. Ultimately, with my specific case, I chose to go ahead with the hysterectomy. It was a very difficult decision.

The recovery is difficult, but I cannot tell you how much relief I feel already. I was so anxious about the surgery, but it wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be. I don't know what it feels like to have Asherman's, but I empathize with having to live with a chronic, painful condition. I hope that you find some clarity soon!

Thank you.. I don't want to gave anymore children ( also told I wouldn't be able to as the ashermans has caused too much damage. If I was to fall pregnant U would misscarry). One reason that is stopping ne is I am a full time carer for my daughter who has nany geakth and nental health problems. How long was your stay in hospital

I stayed just one night in the hospital, and I believe the maximum would be three nights. But, you will need help at home in the weeks after--I still have been getting exhausted after very light activity. My partner worked from home for the first week to help me out. Is there anyone in your life who could help your daughter and yourself during your recovery?

I have my partner who is very good. Maybe like you say your husband too time off, I could get him to do the same. She is a nightmare even If I go shooping and she stays with him I get hundreds of texts while I'm gone. She can't even be left at home on her own. It's not too bad if the stay in hospital is not long.

I am 43, heading 44, and I have told I got a large fibroids... now I am really lost whether I should take medicine or should I use surgery ... they said will remove the uterus but keep the ovary if surgery ... I am thinking and thinking and thinking ... can not make the decision .. I am not worry of having more children ( I have 2 already).. I am just not sure how is like after surgery .. will I be aged quickly become an old lady ( as I have a younger husband ) or ... will be a lot of side effects ? ..... what shall I dooooooooooo.........

Hi I had a fibroid removed but the 1 month later I had another so it was pointless having the first removed. They can shrink them but there is a chance of the returning. I'm not sure if once they have shrunk them they can remove them. If you don't want anymore children and don't have any other medical problems that would stop you from having hysterectomy then I would go ahead. Ive been told you are sore for around six weeks sometimes a little longer. Maybe right down the pros and cons of you having your hysterectomy done. Try not to worry too much.

Hi Daisy50,I am 45 and mum of two and now 8 weeks post op and live in Wales. My problems started when I hit 40 with a huge fibroid in the neck of the womb causing extremely heavy periods I also suffered with bloating stomach ache and lower back pain., and cysts on my cervix. My contraceptive was changed as I used to bleed in between the month to. I was back and forth trying cold coagulation, Letz loop amongst other methods and tablets to help with pain and blood flow, I even had a marina coil fitted, which helped for a time but left me in great pain. A hysterectomy was the last decision for me I had tried to avoid but it got to a point where I would flood through my clothing twice whilst in work, and there were men in my workplace. This was the final straw which made me have a total Hysterectomy (everything removed). I knew I didn’t want more children to so made the decision to have my op. I was in for 4 days I had bled a lot after my op, which left me with low blood pressure, tired, sleepy, back ache, headaches and the trapped wind was horrendous. I had very good nursing care and a very good surgeon. You think you can spring back pretty quick after but that is not the case, the first 4 weeks I thought what have I done? I.m now 8 weeks post op and feeling a lot better and happier, but still off work. My two children and my husband have been fantastic in my recovery, they have cooked, shopped, done the laundry, and I had many good friends who came in and cooked and run myself or the kids around. I have been very lucky to have that support after my operation, you literally can’t lift anything. I had no follow ups just a letter to say I no longer need to have smears and nothing nasty found. I then felt quite alone until I found this forum which has been a godsend for support. Sorry it’s long winded but I now am feeling so much better, still tired but on iron tablets for that, you literally need to sit and do nothing for 8 weeks if you don’t you run risk of prolapse or hernia, not to mention fatigue, please feel free to read my replies to others at different stages to give you an idea. So sorry you have other health problems and hope you make the right decision for you.

hello.. i read all through your long message as i am similar as your situation. I am 44 and now i am told that i have a large fibroid and my world just clashed. I knew i had problem before, as i have very heavy period (not bleeding between yet), but heavy period. for the last 2 holidays, i had never been to water as I always have heavy period (as the period cycle is only 3 weeks or so, getting much shorter than before). One time I was in greece with my family and my younger son insisted that i should sit on the donkey and I did. and when i got off- the poor donkey's back was covered in blood ........ and so many people was watching (including my two sons and my husband) as that was a very tourist place..I wish i could dig a hole and then hide my head in it. .. I am very anemic.. and even on iron tablets all the time but it does not go up much level and just keep going. And finally they have found this large fribroid and that explain my problem of heavy blooding, backache, and stomach bloated .....

I feel really down these days-as i am on and off about the ideas of doing the hysterectomy or not... as i am really bit worry of loosing my last bit of sexual drive (already not much left as all the problems i have) and will age really fast after that. But i heard loads of people saying that they feel so much better after the operation. what i worry is that if i choose to take the medicine to shrink for months and worry about whether it works or not-- (the doctor said can start to take the medicine to shrink it and then put on a hormone coil to reduce period, and the last option to choose hysterectomy). i just worry that after all my trying and hard work of medicine and stress--and will still end up the same solution and wasted my years ahead of no quality of life. years later i will enter menopause already..... the next 5-10 years ahead will be the youngest years i have...do i really want to waste years to struggle for this????

I feel very depressed these days and lost. sorry for the long message again... Just a certain time of the life is so dark....

sorry for some bad English here as I am not native English speaker.

I think you should talk through thigs again with you Specialist. I have my fibroid removed so no need for hysterectomy, but now I have another problem it's something I may have to consider. Do you know how big your fibroid is. You can go down the route of shrinking but I dont think it will get rid of the fibroid completely. I had mine removed and then a month later had another one I have left this one but it is getting bigger. If you don't want anymore children then your best bet would be a hysterectomy, once done you would then have nomore problems. Menopause can be sorted and most people feel much better after hysterectomy. If you can't speak to your speciallist then maybe have a chat with your Gp about your worries.
