Can anyone help.... post op strange ears!

Hi there ladies... finally had my full abdominal hysterectomy on Thursday 10th.... back home and feeling very fragile. Since my op have suffered with the strangest hearing.... i was deaf at first with a feeling if being in a drum. that has now gone but some noises eg the tv sound like daleks speaking.... most odd.

I went to ENT today who looked at my ears, unblocked one and said that one of my tubes looked a little strange... anesthetic can sometimes upset your head and ears.... really quite scary. Has anyone out there had anything quite like this as i am quite scared on top of all that's gone on.

So for the time being i am resting as much as i can... sleeping trying to get up regularly to the loo and trying to eat after eating virtually nothing the past three days.

I'd be so grateful for any help.... very frightened! x x x x

Hi Janesbitz. I’ve not heard of that before, but I’m wondering if it’s the gas they use to inflate your abdomen during surgery. It works it’s way around the body and goes eventually. I hope things improve soon. Xx

Hi Janesbitz I’m 4 weeks post op and for the first 4-5 days had a ringing whirring noise in my ears and was very light headed the noise did go.

I figured it was the after effects of the anaesthetic

Hope yours settles

You come home so soon after a major op not knowing what to expect I’d call your aftercare team if you have one mine were great at reassuring you with any concerns

Take care x

Hi Janesbitz

Sorry to hear you are scared and about your hearing. After my TAH which was 11 weeks ago now I found everything was too loud and too bright. Also my taste completely changed and I went right off tea and chocolate which I normally love, was far too sweet. So I’m guessing this was due to anaesthetic and it all gradually went back to normal. I rang the hospital or my GP if I was worried about anything and they were great. It’s a worrying time as I had all these pains n sensations going on and wasn’t sure if they were normal or not.

I saw you were asking about mobility. I walked up and down indoors for the first week as it was snowing outside but after the first week I walked outside just to the top of the road and back. Then I did a Little further each day. I think it took me 3 weeks till I could walk a mile. But remember everyone is different and wherever you walk to you need to be able to make it home. Just be patient with yourself and listen to your body.

Wishing you a good recovery xx
