As we have a NatureTopic and there's been the Big Butterfly Watch during August I've been keeping an eye out for butterflies as their numbers are dwindling.
I spotted a few of these this afternoon, they migrate from N Africa to the UK and Ireland late summer which's a fantastic achievement considering their size and weight.
This one let me get really close to photograph her sitting on an old tree stump and what amazed me was how well camouflaged she'd be with her wings folded, very autumnal colours too, so very apt for September. π
I'm sorry my parents couldn't have gotten a picture years ago of the entire thing!
You've captured that one really well Jerry.
I remember being in Derbyshire last year on holiday and my hubby and me were on a walk, sat down for lunch by a dried up river and a butterfly landed on both of us separately, it was lovely. They are beautiful little creatures.π

Hi Hidden I'm so sorry about your eldest daughter that is so sad for all of you. It must have been heartbreaking so my thoughts are with you and your family. π
I'm pleased that the butterfly gave you pleasure, they are wonderful creatures. π
Great photo - there seem to be a lot of painted ladies around this year! Given that butterfly numbers are going down it is fantastic to see so many around.

Thank you Hidden It is great seeing pretty butterflies and in numbers.
Hi Jerry, i've been looking out for butterflies this year too, the most unusual one for me has been a orange tip, never seen one before and I haven't seen one since I saw it earlier in the summer. Pretty little thing.
Hi Easterbunny thats great seeing an 'orange tip butterfly' they used to be common British butterflies, so nice one. π
What a great photo Jerry, you managed to get so close. What amazing little creatures migrating all that way - its so amazing, none of them need sat navs or maps : >
As for creatures finding their way home, last night 7 young boars separated from their mums ran in single file down the road past me took the first left down a path into the forest, they looked so cute and were they were on a mission. π
